MAJOR ROAD WORKS
Larnaca-Famagusta Motorway During the period 16/06/2025 – 29/08/2025, excluding Fridays, Weekends and Public Holidays, between the hours of 08:30 – 14:30, pruning and watering works will be carried out on the slopes, including the roundabout triangles, of the Larnaca Airport – Paralimni, Larnaca – Kofinou and Larnaca – Nicosia motorways, in the Larnaca District and from both directions, by the Forestry Department. During the works, part of the shoulder of the motorway will be closed, in sections of 300 meters at a time. Traffic will not be affected.
On the section of the motorway between the Rizoelia roundabout and Xylotympos, during the period 18/06/2025-31/07/2025, except Fridays and weekends, between the hours of 08:30-14:30, pruning work will be carried out on the central island by the Department of Forestry. During the work, the tangential traffic lane of the central island will be closed in sections in both directions for a length of 500m. each time and traffic will be diverted to the adjacent lane. On the motorway, between Larnaca Airport and Rizoelia roundabout, during the period 30/06/2025-31/08/2025, between the hours of 08:30 – 16:30, except Fridays, weekends and holidays, works will be carried out by the Department of Forestry on the central islands of the motorways. During the works, the lane adjacent to the central island of the motorway will be closed in sections in both directions, at a length of 1.5 km each time. On a section of the Ayia Napa-Larnaca Airport motorway, after the Kalo Chorio Interchange, from Monday 28/07/2025 until Thursday 31/07/2025, between the hours of 08:30 – 11:30, road marking works will be carried out. During the works, the left lane will remain closed for approximately 600m, with traffic being diverted to the right lane. Larnaca-Kofinou Motorway During the period 16/06/2025 – 29/08/2025, excluding Fridays, Weekends and Public Holidays, between the hours of 08:30 – 14:30, pruning and watering works will be carried out on the slopes, including the roundabout triangles, of the Larnaca Airport – Paralimni, Larnaca – Kofinou and Larnaca – Nicosia motorways, in the Larnaca District and from both directions, by the Forestry Department. Larnaca-Nicosia Motorway During the period 16/06/2025 – 29/08/2025, excluding Fridays, Weekends and Public Holidays, between the hours of 08:30 – 14:30, pruning and watering works will be carried out on the slopes, including the roundabout triangles, of the Larnaca Airport – Paralimni, Larnaca – Kofinou and Larnaca – Nicosia motorways, in the Larnaca District and from both directions, by the Forestry Department. On the highway, between the Rizoelia roundabout and Nisos, during the period 30/06/2025-31/08/2025, between the hours of 08:30 – 16:30, except Fridays, weekends and holidays, work will be carried out on the central islands of the highways by the Department of Forestry. During the work, the lane adjacent to the central island of the highway will be closed in sections in both directions, at a length of 1.5 km each time. Limassol-Nicosia Motorway In the direction towards Nicosia, in the section after the exit for Mosfiloti up to the motorway junction with Athalassa Avenue and Limassol Avenue, at the entrance to Nicosia, (good evening lights), on Saturday 26/07/2025, between 05:00am – 11:00am, work will be carried out on the central island on the motorway, for the collection of bags. During the work, the right lane will be closed in sections and the work will be carried out using the mobile crane method.Limassol Bypass On the Limassol bypass road and the Paphos-Limassol motorway, the Department of Forestry will carry out maintenance work on the trees and shrubs of the central island, during which the right lane in both directions will be closed for a length of approximately 1500 m and traffic will be diverted to the slow-moving lane. The works will be carried out as follows: (a) On the section from Erimis junction to Petra tou Romiou during the period 26/05/2025 – 29/07/2025 daily except weekends and public holidays between the hours of 07:00 – 15:00 Limassol-Paphos Motorway On Tuesday 22/07/2025 until Tuesday 29/07/2025, except weekends, between the hours of 08:30-15:00, grass clearing works will be carried out on the shoulders of the motorway, including the exits, in both directions. During the works, part of the shoulder of the motorway will be closed in sections. Traffic will be carried out unhindered in the traffic lanes. Nicosia-Kokkinotrimithia Motorway In the direction towards Akaki, in the section from the Kokkinotrimithia roundabout to the Mammari exit, from Monday 28/07/2025 until Thursday 31/07/2025, from 20:00 in the evening until 05:30 in the morning of the next day, road removal and resurfacing works will be carried out on the motorway. Traffic on the motorway towards Akaki will be diverted to the opposite traffic flow, which will operate in two-way traffic. Nicosia District In Nicosia, on Digeni Akrita Avenue, between its intersections with Nikodimou Mylona Street and Kallipoleos Avenue, from 30/06/2025 to 24/11/2025, repair, maintenance and reinforcement works of the existing culvert will be carried out. During the works, a section of one lane of Digeni Akrita Avenue towards Pallouriotissa/Kaimakli will be closed sequentially for approximately 50m and traffic will be diverted to the adjacent lane. In addition, both lanes in this direction will be closed during the days when concreting works are carried out and traffic will be diverted via alternative routes. Separate announcements will be issued for these cases to better inform the public. In Lakatamia and Strovolos, as part of the works being carried out on Ippokratous, Argyroupoleos, Tseriou, and Strovolos avenues, from Wednesday 07/05/2025 and for a period of approximately 5 months, the intersection of Georgiou Anagnostopoulou Street with Tseriou Avenue will be closed. During this period, traffic to and from Tseriou Avenue will be conducted via Georgiou Iona Street, where a photo-controlled intersection will operate to regulate traffic. In Lakatamia and Strovolos, also in the context of the works being carried out on Ippokratous, Argyroupoleos, and Tseriou avenues, from Tuesday 27/05/2025 and for a period of approximately 6 months, the light-controlled intersection of Tseriou avenue with Theofilou Georgiadis street is being abolished and part of Theofilou Georgiadis street will be temporarily closed to traffic, up to its intersection with Ergatikattas street. All movements from Theofilou Georgiadis street to and from Tseriou avenue will be made via the temporary light-controlled intersection with Vasilissis Amalias street. In Nicosia and Aglantzia, as part of the project “Improvement of Famagusta Avenue in Nicosia”, works lasting 24 months are underway from 20 February 2025, which are expected to be completed by 22 February 2027. Specifically, they include Famagusta Avenue from its junction with Kalavryton Street to the Sopaz roundabout, approximately 1.7 km long and a secondary road network approximately 0.8 km long, consisting of a section of Kalavryton, Paphos, Madaris and Semelis streets. Within the framework of the “Improvement of Famagusta Avenue in Nicosia” Project, during the period 24/04/2025-12/12/2025, the following traffic regulations will be in place: Kalavryton Street at its junction with Famagusta will be closed. Drivers are requested to use Faliro Street for their transition to Sopaz roundabout. Drivers are requested to use Larnaca Avenue for their transition to Larnaca Avenue or use Terpsichoris Street respectively.
Pafos Street will also be closed to traffic. Drivers using this particular street to travel to the area are asked to use Gogou Paraskevaidi Street which is parallel to Pafos Street and was specifically constructed for this purpose. Residents of the Pafos Street area who want to travel to Larnaca Avenue are asked to use Kantaras Street while those who want to travel to the Sopaz roundabout are asked to use Gogou Paraskevaidi Street for this purpose.
