ISRAEL AND POLAND - TOURISM IN PAPHOS

Filenews 22 July 2025 - by Dora Christodoulou

Although the momentum for the continuation of the dominant presence of Israeli tourists in Paphos has been lost due to the continuous war conflicts in this country, however, lately the traffic from Israel to Paphos Airport has been recording an ever-increasing pace.

With no longer being able to achieve the record number of visits of previous years, tourist arrivals from Tel Aviv and Haifa to Paphos Airport in the last three weeks have become increasingly frequent, creating a positive climate compared to the complete absence of the previous multi-month period.

Flights from Tel Aviv and Haifa now land daily in Paphos, with some of the airlines operating two routes a day. These flights are operated either by airlines of Cypriot interests, or by smaller Israeli airlines, while it is noteworthy that this week the flight schedule of EL AL resumed after many months. The only absence of the Paphos-Tel Aviv route is now that of Ryanair, which is not yet participating in the rerouting of flights.

Unlike Israel, Poland is at the opposite point of tourism development for Paphos. The messages had already been given in 2024 and now, with the tourist season at its peak, it is definitively confirmed in 2025 that Poland is by far the second main source of tourist flow after the United Kingdom.

Official data on arrivals, flights from the country's airports and bookings show that this Central European country continues from where it left off in 2024, with half of the Polish visitors arriving in Cyprus for holidays staying in Paphos.

Paphos' air connection with Poland is the best in the last 30 years and in 2025 there will be up to 20 flights per week from six major Polish airports, with Ryanair having almost monopoly penetration in this market.

These important data are already being exploited by the Paphos authorities in an effort to form the basis for the further tourism development of the cooperation between the two countries. In this context, tourism operators of the province, with the assistance of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, are taking actions aimed at informing tour operators about the promotion of Paphos as a year-round tourist destination.

The Polish market has now become a top priority market and in recent years arrivals due mainly to Ryanair flights to Paphos have increased significantly
