FIRE VICTIMS - PAYMENT OF 3 SALARIES APPROVED BY MINISTRY - WHO ARE THE BENEFICIARIES?

A financial support plan of  €1.3 million was approved on Wednesday by the Council of Ministers.  This is a three-month plan to support workers affected by the devastating fires in the Limassol district. The plan concerns employees and self-employed persons who cannot work due to damage to professional premises or means of activity.

As stated by the Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, Yiannis Panagiotou, the support will cover all monthly earnings, based on the data of the Social Insurance Fund, while it also includes the coverage of employer and employee social security contributions in order to avoid insurance gaps.

The first payment, which will concern the month of August, is scheduled to be paid before the end of the month, with payments continuing until October, while there is provision for a possible extension depending on the course of the restoration and reactivation of businesses.

Employees will be paid through their employers, while self-employed will receive the benefit directly. The Department of Labour will undertake the management of the project and the personalised guidance to those affected, in collaboration with the District Administration, the Department of Agriculture and the Social Insurance Services.

Mr. Panayiotou stressed that the goal is the rapid and bureaucratically simplified implementation of the plan, using the data already available and without delays. As he said, the affected citizens can contact the Ministry for clarifications regarding the benefit.

Responding to questions, the Minister said that the number of beneficiaries will be determined as soon as the recording of the damages is completed. The support quarter is considered indicative, with the possibility of extension if the need is identified.
