If you decide to work as a waiter, in the kitchen or in another position in the catering and hotel industry, then based on statistics, you are at the greatest risk of being involved in an accident at work, compared to all other professions.
In fact, according to the data of the Statistical Service, the number of accidents at work in activities related to accommodation and catering services exceeds even the construction sector, which for the most part, the most serious and unfortunately the most fatal accidents are recorded.
The positive thing, as noted by professionals in the catering industry in "F", is that on the one hand, accidents in this sector are – fortunately – limited to minor injuries, while on the other hand, all employees, regardless of the time they are employed, are covered by employer insurance.
5,388 accidents in all sectors
According to the data of the Statistics, from 2021 to 2024, a total of 5,388 non-fatal accidents at work and 33 fatal accidents were recorded in all sectors.
Of the 5,388 – non-fatal – 1,084 were recorded in the catering sector. This is followed by the construction sector, which for the same period recorded 948 non-fatal accidents at work. Unfortunately, however, this sector records the most fatalities with 11 deaths for the same period.
In third place is the manufacturing sector with 889 incidents, while 747 accidents were recorded in the trade and repair of vehicles and motorcycles. In fifth place is the public administration and defense sector, with 406 non-fatal recorded incidents.
This is followed by the transport and storage sector with 399 accidents, administrative and support services with 191, activities related to human health and social care with 123 accidents, agriculture, forestry and fisheries with 92 incidents.
In construction, the most lethal
On the other hand, in 2021 – 2024, the construction sector records the highest number of fatal accidents at work with a total of 11 incidents. In second place is the manufacturing sector with 7 fatalities, while in the public administration and defense sector 5 deaths are recorded.
In agriculture, forestry and fisheries, 3 fatal accidents were recorded, while in the transport and storage sector another 2 deaths.
