Pafos Live 10 July 2025
On July 22, according to the promise made, the production – supply of water to the network will begin from the desalination plants received from the United Arab Emirates and installed in the Monastery, the Deputy Director of the Water Development Department (TAY) Giorgos Kazantzis told CNA on Wednesday, noting at the same time that 2,000 cubic meters of water are expected from the plant in Kissonerga in July.
"We believe that if problems arise we will be able to solve everything and we will be able to provide water," added Mr. Kazantzis, who was responding to questions from CNA on the issue.
The units in Moni have a capacity of 13,000 cubic meters of water per day.
Asked about this, he said that the construction of the desalination plant in Kissonerga has begun, which will provide 2,000 cubic meters per day and this quantity is expected to be supplied in July. He clarified that 2,000 cubic meters per day is the first dose, explaining that the initial contract provided for 10,000 cubic meters, however, in order to strengthen the water balance of Paphos during the summer, 2,000 cubic meters were added to be given immediately (within July).
He then said that from the largest units for 10,000 cubic meters per day, the contractor is expected to give a timetable. At the same time, he noted that the first estimates date the production and supply of water from September to October.
He clarified that according to the contract, the contractor has the right of time until December, but there is a possibility that he will give 10,000 cubic meters earlier.
More generally, as far as the management of the water system is concerned, Mr. Kazantzis said that "the appeal to the Tender Review Authority was rejected and the assignment of desalination to Garyllis for the production of 10,000 cubic meters per day is proceeding". If everything goes according to wishes, he added, "December 2025 to January 2026 will strengthen the water balance".
