The Police once again recommends the attention of the public, since the fraud for the alleged payment of extrajudicial fines continues.

According to a complaint filed yesterday at the Famagusta TAE by a 53-year-old man, he received a text message on his mobile phone, stating that he should make the out-of-court payment of €85  for a traffic violation.

The 53-year-old followed the electronic link written in the message and after being transferred to a website that falsely appeared to be of a specific online payment company, he entered his bank account details, resulting in the perpetrators extracting the amount of money of  €18,500 from him.

On the occasion of this new case of fraud and extortion of money, the Police informs the public that it never communicates with citizens in this way or through any other communication platform to invite citizens to pay any fines or for any other reason.

The Police draws the attention of citizens to avoid following such electronic links and as never mentioning or registering on unknown websites, their personal and banking details.

Filenews

The emergency measures that came into force in Larnaca since last Friday, after a sudden visit by the President of the Republic to the Police Directorate, brought 19 arrests, until Wednesday evening. Among them are a 17-year-old foreigner suspected of the robbery of two 52-year-olds on the beach of Finikoudes, as well as young people who were in possession of knives. bats and drugs.

The large operation of the Larnaca Police, which is carried out with the assistance of the MMAD and the YAM, focuses on the coastal front of Finikoudes, in which robberies of citizens by young people have recently been recorded. The last five arrests were made on Wednesday evening. According to the Police, a 23-year-old man was arrested, who was stopped for a check, after driving a motorcycle that did not have a registration number. A folding knife was found in his possession, while it was found that he was driving without a license and safety certificate.

Subsequently, a 28-year-old man was arrested for possession of offensive instruments and specifically a bat and an iron fist, while the police officers also handcuffed two men, 21 and 42 years old, for possession of a small amount of cannabis. Finally, a 21-year-old man was arrested for illegal possession of property, after two silver hand chains in nylon packages were found in his possession on which the prices were written. The Police are conducting examinations to see if the two chains have been stolen.

The picture of the case "built" by the TAE Headquarters against the Azerbaijani with a British passport, who had been arrested for espionage at the "Andreas Papandreou" military base in Paphos and at the British bases of Akrotiri, is clarified.

Although the authorities of the Republic are keeping silent about the case, citing state security issues, however, as we are already informed, a case has already been registered against him and he is facing a number of charges directly related to espionage offenses.

On July 28, a procedure has been set before the Limassol Permanent Assize Court in order to respond to the charges he faces.

All the offences of which he is accused are linked to acts attributed to the actions of a spy. We quote them:

>> Espionage.

>> Publication of news related to defense projects.

>> Entering a prohibited area.

>> Money Laundering.

He communicated to a third party

The accusation of publishing news related to defense projects in combination with the information that "F" had obtained and published about his actions, reveal the following: That the Legal Service of the Republic, on the basis of the witness material, considers that the Azerbaijani sent the photos to another person who was his associate and possibly related to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, as was the initial information managed by the Authorities of the Republic.

As we had revealed since last month, the accused allegedly used a high-tech camera and his mobile phones. Through them, he allegedly received visual material from the British bases of Akrotiri (RAF) and the "Andreas Papandreou" air base during the period when the air and missile strikes between Israel and Iran were in progress.

According to the Penal Code, the offense of publishing news relating to defense projects is committed to persons who "without lawful authority publishes or announces to any person not authorized to do so, any plan, type, note, document, thing, information or news related to any fortifications, means or works of defense, barracks, military depots, or other places occupied or used; by or for the needs of the armed forces of the Republic, or relating to their parking, gathering, movement, or action, is guilty of a criminal offence and is subject to six years' imprisonment".

In this case, the Azerbaijani defendant was in possession of a Nikon Coolpix P1100 camera. It allows 125 times optical magnification (zoom) and has high definition. Such cameras are used for espionage and surveillance purposes.

The suspect, as we had noted in a previous report, lived in Zakaki and in an area adjacent to the British RAF Bases in Limassol. The initial information received by the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus stated that a suspicious pedestrian was moving in the area of the Bases carrying the camera.

In addition, he also had three mobile phones with him. As it emerged from his physical monitoring, he took photos both with his professional camera and with his mobile phones. In addition, on June 20, the TAE Headquarters stated that the accused had gone - from Limassol where he lived - to the "Andreas Papandreou" air base in Paphos by changing two buses. He then rented a car from Paphos Airport. The accused had gone to the "Andreas Papandreou" base shortly after American transport planes and marines allegedly arrived there (see Hellas Journal).

In other words, what the prosecution will try to prove in the Assize Court, on the basis of the testimony collected by the TAE Headquarters, is that the Azerbaijani received visual material with photographic and mobile phones and shared the snapshots with another person.

However, from the information that was put before us, after the arrest of the Azerbaijani in Limassol and the freezing of objects found in his possession, they were examined by the Forensic Electronic Data Laboratory (PPC) of the Police.

It should be noted that a 26-year-old Azerbaijani man was arrested in Chania, that is, one day after the arrest of his compatriot in Cyprus and specifically on 22/6/2025. The 26-year-old had an identical way of acting. A photograph of the same type (Nikon Coolpix) that he allegedly bought from a store in Athens was found in his place of residence. Through encryption software, he sent a large amount of files to an unknown person.

The 26-year-old carried out espionage actions at the Souda naval base and had an identical methodology (modus operandi). In his possession he had a camera with a large number of files. The photographs depicted military installations, as well as ship arrivals and departures. In fact, it had file-encryption software, which it allegedly used and sent material to its link.

The other offences

The Azerbaijani, who at the end of the month, will be brought before the Limassol Assize Court to answer the charges he faces, as we noted, is also facing the offense of "entering a prohibited area", which, according to the Criminal Code, concerns anyone "without the written permission of the Minister of the Interior, approaches, inspects, photographs, prepares plans, passes through or enters any prohibited area, he is guilty of a criminal offence and is subject to six years' imprisonment".

With regard to the offence of espionage, the Penal Code states: "Whoever for any purpose harmful to the security or interests of the Republic procures, receives, collects, records, publishes, transmits or communicates to any other person any secret official code or secret password or any design, type, note, object or other document or information; which is intended or may or is intended to be directly or indirectly useful to any other State, is guilty of a felony and is punishable by 10 years' imprisonment."

As for the crime of money laundering, it is obvious that the Authorities of the Republic during his arrest and the searches in the place where he lived found a sum of money in his possession. It is believed that the money is the product of illegal activities.

The third lawyer...

It should be noted that information indicates that the Azerbaijani with a British passport was undecided in his defense. From June until today, he spoke with three lawyers. As we are informed, he changed his legal representative twice and recently ended up with a third lawyer, who will represent him in the July 28 proceedings.

A police operation has been underway since early Friday morning in a large apartment building in Larnaca in which foreigners lived, under poor conditions.

Members of the Larnaca Police, as well as the Aliens and Immigration Service, are taking part in the operation. According to information from the Police, so far, eight persons have been arrested for illegal stay on the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.

It is noted that the apartment building in question is located near the roundabout of the port of Larnaca.

The living conditions of dozens of people in a large complex of apartment buildings near the Port of Larnaca, on the busy Makariou Avenue, are only shameful. Part of the building is, in fact, dangerous, while in several apartments there are curtains instead of doors.

Some live in the apartments without electricity and water, while in some places there is garbage and discarded objects. The walls in the common areas have been corroded and in one building they have blackened, apparently due to a fire. Filenews was found on the scene after a major operation by the Larnaca Police at the site on Friday morning (18/7) during which 10 people were arrested. These are nine people of African origin who were found to be illegally residing in the Republic of Cyprus and a Syrian against whom there were unexecuted warrants. Members of the ADE and the Aliens and Immigration Service took part in the operation.

The images we saw inside the building do not honour anyone and refer to abandonmentDozens of people live in very bad conditions, while even in the courtyard there is garbage. It is noted that in the apartment buildings there are dozens of apartments and over 90 owners, as our website was informed.

The Municipality of Larnaca has been trying for a long time, now together with the Larnaca District Self-Government Organization, to find a solution to the issue. As the Mayor of Larnaca, Andreas Vyras, told us, a special Committee has been set up on the issue in which the Municipality and EOAL, as well as the EAC participate, since, as he said, issues with electricity transmission have arisen. "There are issues of statics and illegalities in the field. It's complex legal processes and a lot of services are involved."

joint legal advisor has been appointed by the Municipality of Larnaca and the EOAL in order to clarify the ownership status of all the apartments and to initiate legal proceedings, as we have been told.

Cyprus Mail

The police chief on Thursday ordered the extension of the suspension of two officers – one male, the other female – suspected of engaging in sexual intercourse in broad daylight inside a police patrol car in Larnaca.

The suspension of the two officers will be extended by a month while an internal police disciplinary probe is underway. The two also face possible criminal charges.

In mid-June a video went viral on social media, apparently depicting the two officers having sex inside a patrol car in a field in Aradippou, Larnaca. Police have since authenticated the video as genuine.

One of the officers was on duty at the time, the other was not. According to fresh reports on Thursday, it was the female officer who was on duty. She is said to have driven to the location in a patrol car.

The two officers had been suspended immediately after the affair came to light. One of the two denies the allegations.

Investigations are ongoing along three tracks. The first is a disciplinary investigation into possible offences, including improper conduct, dereliction of duty and breach or neglect of duty.

The second relates to possible criminal offences. This is being handled by the professional standards and inspections directorate. The directorate took over to avoid any conflicts of interest because officers in Larnaca may know the suspects.

And the third track concerns the leak of the officers’ personal data online.
