The Plenary Session of the Parliament, in the context of a marathon session, approved last night the proposal for a law that regulates the actions that must be made by those involved in road accidents from which only material damage is caused. The proposal was submitted by DISY MP Dimitris Demetriou.
As mentioned by the reporter, for minor accidents, which occur by the dozens, almost every day, hundreds or even thousands of drivers are inconvenienced, as even when only material damage, such as scratches, occurs, drivers are obliged to stay at the scene of the accident and wait for representatives of the insurance companies, resulting in the inconvenience of the rest of the drivers, due to obstruction of traffic.
The proposal that was voted on yesterday provides, among other things, that those involved in light traffic accidents will take photos of the scene of the collision and then, after exchanging data, they will be removed, so that the movement of vehicles can continue normally.
In particular, a driver of a motor vehicle who has been involved in an accident in which only material damage has been caused shall take such actions to restore any traffic interruption by moving the vehicle in question to an off-road safety lane, to a nearby parking lot or to a road without traffic, so as not to obstruct traffic and create additional risks to traffic.
The driver is obliged to provide the other driver involved in the accident with his identity and/or driving licence, as well as any other useful information about his vehicle and to promptly take photographs from the scene of the accident for reliable documentation, including all damages suffered by the vehicle. as well as photos of the surrounding area, avoiding the cause of traffic congestion.
The drivers involved in the accident proceed either electronically or in paper form to pre-fill the European accident report form for the recording of the accident.
