16 communities in mountainous and semi-mountainous Limassol remain without power due to extensive damage to the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) network caused by the devastating fire in the area, EAC Spokesperson Christina Papadopoulou said.
The affected communities are: Agios Ambrosios, Agios Therapon, Alassa, Arsos, Kissousa, Kato Kivides, Kolossi, Malia, Pachna, Potamiou, Silikos, Sotira, Souni, Vasa Koilaniou, Vouni and Zanakia.

As Ms. Papadopoulou mentioned, an operational center has been set up with the transfer of personnel and equipment from other cities to support EAC crews in Limassol. However, the work of the technicians remains particularly difficult due to the rough terrain and active fire fronts.
"We have managed to make a visual assessment of only 15% of the affected area. The damage will be recorded when the fire is completely extinguished," he said, noting that there is still no clear picture of the total destruction in the network.

The EAC Spokesperson called on citizens to be particularly careful and not to approach fallen poles or cables under any circumstances, stressing that they pose a serious risk to public safety. "The people of EAC have been there from the very first moment and the information to the citizens continues," he noted.
Asked about the time of restoration of the electricity supply, Ms. Papadopoulou replied that it is impossible to make an estimate at this time. "Where it is possible and safe, we will try to provide electricity by alternative means. However, without the complete extinguishing of the fire, it is impossible to proceed with electricity," he underlined.
