VEHICLE RECALLS - IMMEDIATE UPDATE FOR OWNERS OF CITROEN VEHICLES CARRYING TAKATA AIRBAGS

Filenews 21 June 2025

On the occasion of the latest developments in France, the Department of Road Transport (TOM) of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, announces that it has contacted by telephone with owners of Citroën vehicles manufactured from 2008 to 2019, which are under recall for defective Takata airbags and are included in a category of vehicles that the manufacturer may characterize as vehicles that need to be stopped. The communication was made with the aim of immediately informing them of a possible increased risk to their safety, as may result from the accident that occurred in France with the same type of vehicle and which carried a defective airbag.

Specifically, the communication concerns seven (7) Citroën C3 and DS3 vehicles, manufactured between 2008 and 2019. These vehicles have already been called for airbag replacement, but have not yet implemented the recall. It is noted that to date the manufacturer has not categorized them as vehicles that need to be stopped, which may happen in the near future, taking into account the developments in France.

The Department of Road Transport, acting as a precautionary measure, reminded vehicle owners that the recall for the replacement of a Takata airbag, which has been repeatedly informed by the dealer, is pending, and recommended that they immediately and without further delay arrange the appointment for the replacement of the defective airbag. The manufacturer's distributor is already acting on the components required to implement the recall.

Until then, the Department of Road Transport made a recommendation not to use the vehicles.

The Department of Road Transport has requested the assistance of Officers of the Permanent Representation of Cyprus to the European Union for further information from the French Delegation on the facts and their decisions.

The Department of Road Transport is closely monitoring the situation and cooperating with the relevant authorities to ensure the safety of citizens.
