The Department of the Environment is proceeding with the placement of 50 "green kiosks" in mountainous and remote areas, with the aim of the separate collection of recyclable materials.
As the Senior Environmental Officer of the Department of Environment, Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Ioanna Konstantinidou, said on the sidelines of an international conference on waste management, which is taking place in Paphos, the action is being promoted through the LIFE-IP CYzero WASTE program that started in 2021 and will be completed with various actions in 2029.
The "green kiosks" have been placed in mountainous and remote areas, where Green Dot does not operate, he said, with the aim of separate collection of recyclable materials, such as paper, plastic, metal and spinning products in communities. Mrs. Konstantinidou announced that a "green kiosk" has been installed in the port of Kato Paphos, while in aggregate, she continued, 6 kiosks have already been installed in the districts of Nicosia, Larnaca, Limassol while 2 have been placed in the Paphos district.
Another important action of the project is reuse, saying that two reuse and device centers and stores are being promoted, one in Nicosia and one in Limassol, with a time horizon of implementation and operation of 2028-2029. where the Green Points already exist or the Green Points will be expanded. Indicatively, he said that 13 will operate in Nicosia, and the rest in other cities. It was also mentioned that six marine litter management systems will be installed in the same number of fishing shelters in Paralimni, Ayia Napa, Larnaca, Limassol, Paphos and Polis Chrysochous.
