Filenews

Important developments are recorded behind the arrests of the juvenile suspects, who are in custody for the case of robbery in a bakery in Limassol.

After thorough examinations by the Police, it has been possible to connect the minors to the case of a bombing in a pub, which took place a few weeks ago in the area of Zakaki.

The investigations found that the vehicle in which the perpetrators of the bombing moved was connected to the minors.

It is recalled that the four minors – a 15-year-old, two 17-year-olds and a 14-year-old – were arrested under court warrants and are in custody for the robbery case.

They are expected to be brought before the Limassol District Court today for the issuance of a request for their detention, in a procedure that will be held behind closed doors.

Update - With the proceedings taking place behind closed doors, the four minors arrested on suspicion of the bombing of a pub were detained for a period of eight days.

The minors, in addition to their involvement in the case of the robbery in a bakery, are also allegedly involved in vehicle theft and a bomb attack.

As Filenews is informed, during their interrogation, the two minors (14 and 15 years old) place themselves in the two tents.

Specifically, the second suspect, aged 14, in his testimony before his lawyer, places himself in the two tents. However, he claims he did nothing and named the other three suspects. He also mentioned that he and the 15-year-old went to Limassol by bus, to go to the house of their 17-year-old friend. The second 17-year-old was also there.

As he said, at some point they went out and, at a close distance from the house, stole a vehicle, which – as he claimed – was opened by the two 17-year-olds. Then they went for walks in Limassol.

He also said that, at some point, he fell asleep, while, as one 17-year-old was driving, he stopped outside the pub, where the second 17-year-old got down with him, planted the bomb and they left. After that, he claimed that he woke up when they had returned to the 15-year-old's house in Orounta.

He also mentioned that he had gone to the pub earlier, when they got them out of the stolen car. He also claimed to have seen a 17-year-old holding a round tall object with black tape and a wick on top.

The 15-year-old, during his interrogation, among other things, places himself in both scenes and confirms what the second suspect (14-year-old) said.

He claimed that the two 17-year-olds had a key to a car with which they stole it and then left, with the two being the driver and co-driver. The 15-year-old, along with the 14-year-old, was in the back seat.

On the way, as he said, he was holding a black, round bomb with a "star", which the 17-year-old gave him.

At one point, he said that the two of them (15 and 14 years old) got out of the vehicle in the afternoon and, after a while, they returned and were picked up by the two 17-year-olds.

He said that, at some point, they stopped outside the pub and a 17-year-old got out of the car, planted the bomb and then returned to the vehicle and left.

During their escape, he heard the explosion. Then, they returned to the residence of their 17-year-old friend and, in the same car – which he left them as a "gift" for his birthday – he returned to his home in Orounta.

It should be noted that two of the four minors also described the theft of the car. The authorities arrived on their trail after locating the stolen vehicle near the 15-year-old's house in Orounta.

Also, from closed circuits monitoring the area, where the explosive device was placed in the pub, the owner of the vehicle stolen by the minors recognized it as his own. Shortly before the theft, the minors were recorded by security cameras.

It is worth mentioning that there is a testimony according to which, two hours before the explosion in the pub, two persons were noticed moving on foot in the area and at a distance of ten meters from the spot. The witness saw them getting into a vehicle and their movements seemed suspicious.

The other two 17-year-olds are expected to be questioned later in the day.

The TAE Limassol continues its examinations.

Update - The investigations of the Limassol TAE are in full progress to locate an unknown person, who was planning a bomb attack in the eastern area of the city. According to the Police, the criminal act was prevented in time thanks to the intervention of the Limassol ADE patrols.

As stated by the Assistant Police Director of Operations and head of the Limassol TAE, Lefteris Kyriakou, the incident occurred around 2:30 in the morning of Tuesday.

At the same time, according to information from philenews, the authorities seem to have formed an image of the possible target of the attempt.

Mr. Kyriakou confirmed that the area in which the suspect was located was not accidental, as serious criminal actions had been recorded there in the past.

"The Police take measures both for the prevention and for the investigation of crimes. In this context, the suspect was also identified, and it seems that a serious criminal act was prevented," he concluded.
