A 7-day detention order was issued by the Court against a 23-year-old man from India, in connection with the brutal attack that took place on the evening of June 4 and resulted in the injury of a compatriot of his age, in Zakaki. The suspect seems to be a person who has been busy with the Police lately, as he had been arrested for another attack against his compatriots with bats, at the beginning of April. However, at the time, the Court had released him on restrictive terms.
The 23-year-old was brought before the Court on Friday morning, as a suspect for the offenses of conspiracy to commit a felony, acts aimed at causing grievous bodily harm, causing grievous bodily harm, injury and stabbing. His lawyer, Despo Christodoulou, did not raise an objection and the Court approved the relevant request of the Limassol TAE.
Identification from photos
During interrogation, the 23-year-old complainant said that after the incident, one of his roommates sent him photos of their compatriots, whom he recognized as the persons who attacked and injured him. Among them was the suspect. According to testimony obtained, the perpetrators were recently involved in another incident, with the same vehicle allegedly used in the attack on the complainant.
The photos were handed over to the Limassol TAE and the suspect was identified by a police officer, after he had engaged the authorities in April, where a group of Indians had attacked a compatriot with clubs and robbed him.
During the investigations carried out, the car in which the perpetrators were riding was found abandoned in an open area in the area of Germasogeia, bearing various damages. According to another testimony obtained, on the same day 5-6 people caused damage to the vehicle and abandoned it at the scene, while then they fled with another old car, which is being sought.
Involved in a second case
An arrest warrant was issued against the 23-year-old and on June 12, he presented himself at the Limassol Central Police Station, within the framework of a condition imposed on him by the Court for the case of April 2. In this particular case, another young Indian had been attacked by a group of his compatriots, who were holding clubs. After chasing and attacking him, they stole his mobile phone and fled by car.
The suspect was arrested and verbally denied any involvement, claiming that he did not know the complainant. When asked about his place of residence, he said that he is homeless and lives in a park. He also claimed that on the day of the attack he was in another location, which he did not specify.
Another arrest warrant has been issued for the case against another person, while three more people are being sought, whose details remain unknown.
