CHRYSANTHOS SAVVIDIS - MODERN AIRPORT WITH A SAFE ROAD NETWORK

 Pafos Live 12 June 2025

Our contribution to the implementation of the expansion of Paphos Airport is an important achievement, which strengthens our province and creates new prospects for its tourism and economic development. However, this project cannot be fully exploited without the existence of a modern and safe road network that connects it directly to the main tourist areas, and in particular to the Coral Bay.

The construction of a new road that will connect Paphos Airport with the tourist zone of the area is a project of strategic importance and has been a constant request for more than three decades. Despite occasional discussions, no substantial progress has been made to date.

Our goal is to exert all possible pressure on the competent authorities so that the implementation of the project can begin immediately. A modern road network will enhance tourist traffic, facilitate travel and significantly improve the everyday life of citizens.

Regardless of the final decision that will be taken on the new road axis, it is self-evident that an immediate and substantial upgrade of the existing road network is required, which currently does not meet modern needs, nor the standards of road safety and service.

As the Parliamentary Committee on Transport, we are making this issue one of our immediate priorities. On 27 June, we will visit Paphos, with the aim of examining the situation on the spot and increasing pressure on all relevant bodies to promote solutions.

Paphos needs – and has a right – to modern infrastructure that enhances its tourism potential, supports the local economy and substantially improves the quality of life of its residents and visitors.
