Filenews 15 June 2025
The Cyprus Police announces the launch of a nationwide road safety campaign on driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, which will take place from 16 to 22 June 2025.
The aim of the campaign is to prevent serious and fatal road collisions, through targeted checks and information actions on two of the most serious drivers of road accidents, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of drugs.
It should be noted that driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, as well as careless driving, were the main causes of fatal road collisions, at a rate of 23.3% and 21.4% respectively (period 2022 – 2024).
Throughout the campaign, the Police will conduct intensive traffic checks on a nationwide basis, while at the same time promoting informative actions to the public for the cultivation of road awareness and responsible driving behaviour.
The campaign will be conducted simultaneously and at a pan-European level, in the framework of the cooperation of the Cyprus Police with the European Traffic Police Network ROADPOL.
