THE DIGITIZATION OF INFORMATION AND THE HIGHLIGHTING OF POINTS OF INTEREST THROUGH SMART SIGNS CONTINUES

THE DIGITIZATION OF INFORMATION AND THE HIGHLIGHTING OF POINTS OF INTEREST THROUGH SMART SIGNS CONTINUES The Paphos Regional Tourism Development and Promotion Company is particularly pleased with the results of its initiative to digitize information and replace static, inadequate information signs with “smart”, environmentally friendly, discreet and interactive signs.

As shown by the statistics for January-April 2025, now collected by QR CODES, over 62,000 scans have been carried out from 89 smart signs throughout the district. The data for 2024 (Jan-Dec 2024) also record excellent results with over 350,000 scans.

The most popular signs were the signs inside the Tombs of the Kings, Panagia Chrysopolitissa, the Monastery of Agios Neophytos, the Catacombs of Agia Solomonis, and the Kremmiotis Waterfall in Crete Terra.

The top five nationalities, apart from permanent residents of Cyprus, who have scanned the signs are British, Polish, German, French and Austrian. The effort continues for 2025, where the 6th phase of creating 18 additional signs is currently underway, covering various points of interest and natural monuments in the areas of: Paphos, Peyia Pomos, Argaka, Inia, Lhasa, Lysos, Fyti, Kouklia, Episkopi, Nikoklia Salamiou, Mandria, etc.

As previously stated, in order to enjoy the experience of the smart signs, the user/visitor must first scan the QR code and then select from their smart device the language of their choice, and through the platform, they are offered a wide range of information options from audio tours, texts, photographic material, video, 360 tour, etc.

The Paphos Tourism Authority notes that efforts in the fields of Digitization, Accessibility, Sustainable Development, Upgrading of Experiences as well as the promotion of Cultural Heritage-Creative Tourism and the destination in general constitute the most important pillars of its strategy for further development of tourism on a year-round basis.
