ROAD TRANSPORT DEPT - 1,300 CALLS FROM CITIZENS WAITING FOR AN AIRBAG APPOINTEMENT

 Filenews 13 May 2025

The call center of the Department of Road Transport (TOM) responded to 1,300 phone calls from citizens who are waiting for an appointment for the replacement of the defective airbag in their vehicle, according to statements by the Director of the Department, Giorgos Loukas.

As Mr. Loukas said, most of the calls concern vehicles of the companies Mazda, Honda and Toyota. These are cases of citizens who have already contacted the respective delegations, but have not received a response or a scheduled appointment for the replacement of the problematic component.

Asked if these citizens have paid and expect the companies to arrange the appointment, Mr. Luca said that Mazda and Toyota charge for the replacement of the airbag, adding that for Honda there is no charge from what he knows.

However, Mr. Louka said that he knows that "the delegations are progressing, at an increased pace."

Regarding the cases of citizens, for which the delegations have not yet proceeded with the arrangement of appointments, he said that they mainly concern vehicles for which the components have not yet arrived in Cyprus and which concern specific models.

The TOM Director said that dealerships are going ahead and booking appointments for their models for which they have already received parts from abroad, adding that companies "have large deliveries" and "expect more parts for specific models".

Asked whether all defective airbags will be replaced by October 2, 2025, which has been set as a time frame, Mr. Louka expressed optimism due to the pace at which large companies are working.

He also said that in addition to those who have contacted and given their details to the distributors and are waiting for their appointment to be arranged, "there are also people who have not yet contacted".

The Director of the TOM appealed to citizens who have not contacted the distributors "to go ahead, to send their details to make an appointment".
