The Municipality of Larnaca warns the public about online fraud incidents, related to the illegal placement of fake QR codes in parking machines in the city, particularly on Athens Avenue and other municipal parking lots. It is noted that the same phenomenon is observed in the Municipality of Limassol.
According to a relevant announcement, the stickers are labeled "SCAN TO PAY" and refer to fake payment platforms, putting the personal data and money of users who scan the code at risk.
The Municipality clarifies that the only valid payment method for parking is the use of coins directly at the parking machine, which issues a paper receipt. This receipt must be placed prominently inside the vehicle.
The incident has already been reported to the competent police authorities, while citizens are asked to be particularly careful and not to scan QR codes that are pasted on the parking machine
