In an area near the destroyed permanent desalination plant of Kouklia, one of the units that the UAE has granted to Cyprus is being installed. This unit, according to information, has a capacity of 1,350 cubic meters of water per day, with its production reaching up to 1,500 cubic meters per 24 hours.
Officials of the water development department inspected the site again this morning and are waiting for the container to be transported to the area in order to be able to put the unit into operation, since in the specific area where the unit that was destroyed by fire is being reconstructed, there is the necessary infrastructure, i.e. electricity and a network for water transport. Estimates are that the plant will be able to produce water before the end of June. At the same time, the private contractor who has the contract for the large unit in the same area is working tirelessly for its reopening at the beginning of August.
In addition, the contractor who has signed contracts for the mobile unit in Potima with a capacity of 10,000 cubic meters per day has committed that before the operation of this unit in September, two small mobile units will have been operational in the same area with a capacity of 2,000 cubic meters of water in July.
