The President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, gave the assurance that by the end of 2025 all technical issues will be completed, so that the Republic of Cyprus will join the Schengen Zone in 2026.
Specifically, when asked if Cyprus can join the Schengen Zone and if some preparations are being made for it, the President of the Republic said that "we will enter the Schengen Zone in 2026.
A huge effort is being made by the end of 2025 from a technical point of view, this is our goal, we will have completed everything we need to do as a State, with the aim of 2026, precisely, for the Republic of Cyprus to join the Schengen Zone, which will be a strategic decision, a development, both for the Republic of Cyprus and for the EU. We also need the European Parliament's contribution to this effort, and I am pleased with what I have heard from the President of the European Parliament.
Beyond that, in all the contacts that we have now, especially in view of the Presidency, where I will be visiting all the Member States, it is one of the main issues that we raise and I am pleased with the response that I am seeing. But first we have to complete our work and I assure you that by the end of 2025 we will complete all the technical things we need to do so that our country will be in the Schengen Zone in 2026. It was something that I announced before the election and you can be sure that we will implement it".
