A three-and-a-half-year prison sentence was imposed today by the Permanent Assize Court of Larnaca, on a 36-year-old man, after in the context of the trial of the case of the detection of weapons, ammunition and explosives, in the district of Larnaca, in May, 2024, the Permanent Assize Court found the 36-year-old guilty of the offense of conspiracy to commit a felony.
An eight-year prison sentence was imposed in a previous trial, on February 06, 2025, on a 47-year-old man, who was found guilty by the Permanent Assize Court of Larnaca, for the offenses of possession and transport, of a firearm, ammunition, and explosives.
The weapons, ammunition and explosives were found on May 20, 2024, in a cemetery, in the Larnaca district, after an evaluation of information by the Police. On the same day, the 47-year-old and the 36-year-old were arrested in connection with the case.
Specifically, during the police operation of May 20, a military rifle, an anti-tank vehicle, two projectiles, three projectile propellers, a package of cartridges, an improvised explosive device, a quantity of high-power explosive, a pistol and two silencers were found in a grave in the cemetery.
In a bag held by the 47-year-old, who was stopped by the members of the Police in the area of the cemetery, a pistol, a shotgun, a number of pistol bullets and a number of cartridges were found.
From the scientific examination of the evidence, which was received during the police investigations, testimony was secured against a third suspect, a 42-year-old man. He was arrested, pursuant to a court warrant, on June 25, 2024.

The Police are investigating a case involving a number of criminal offences, including assault with actual harm, threat, public insult, resistance to lawful arrest, escape from lawful detention, assault on a police officer, as well as serious traffic offences.
Specifically, around 17:40, a vehicle driven by a resident of Larnaca, while moving in the direction of Livadia, was hit in the rear right by a motorcycle without registration numbers.
From the collision, the occupants of the motorcycle, a young man and a young woman, fell on the road. A police officer, who was off duty, noticed the incident and rushed to the scene for help.
The driver of the motorcycle tried to escape, without succeeding, as he was stopped by the off-duty policeman. He then attacked the member of the Police, who informed him that he was under arrest.
The suspect hit the officer in the face, causing him injury and managed to escape on foot, abandoning his motorcycle at the scene.
In the context of an investigation of the case, a testimony emerged against a 19-year-old, who was arrested on the same day on the basis of a court warrant.
Our member went to the Larnaca General Hospital, where he received first aid (eight stitches in the eye) and was discharged.

The imposition of a sentence is now awaited by the 76-year-old defendant, who admitted to the sexual abuse of a 6-year-old. The accused, as filenews wrote in a report on April 7, is the father of the partner of the child's mother.
During today's proceedings before the Limassol Permanent Assize Court, which was held behind closed doors, the 76-year-old defendant admitted all 10 charges he faces and relates to the offense of sexual abuse of a minor under 10 years of age, on different dates. The case was set for the imposition of a sentence in the next period while the accused was taken back to the Central Prison, where he remains under trial.
As we wrote a month ago, the torture of the underage girl began in 2023, with the victim being at the tender age of 6. The atrocities included in the file of the horrific case happened in the last two years, when the 76-year-old, who is the father of the partner of the child's mother, came to Cyprus for a vacation and lived in the same house where the victim and her parents lived.
What the little girl experienced from the 76-year-old defendant was revealed after a specific incident that came to the attention of the mother and her partner. The victim told everything and then the case was reported to the Investigation Branch of Cases of Sexual Abuse of Minors of the Police Headquarters. After the complaint made to the authorities, the 76-year-old was arrested in Greece with a European arrest warrant and transferred to Cyprus, where he was brought to justice.

Two attacks on food distributors took place on Tuesday evening (06/05), in Limassol.
In the first case, a 24-year-old delivery man reported to the Police that at 22:20, while he was on Georgiou A' Avenue, near the Poseidonia Hotel, he was attacked by two hooded men who were riding a motorcycle.
Specifically, the perpetrators hit the victim and as a result he lost control and was injured. Unknown persons stole his moped and a shoulder bag for €100.
The injured man was transferred to the Limassol General Hospital where it was found that he suffered an ankle sprain. It is noted that the moped was located via GPS and transferred to the Limassol ADE for examinations.
In the second case, a 22-year-old food delivery man complained that while he was at the traffic lights on Makariou C and Agia Zonis Avenues, at 11:30, he was attacked by two hooded men riding a black motorcycle.
Specifically, the delivery man was kicked by the passenger of the motorcycle, as a result of which he fell to the ground, but was not injured.

The 52-year-old suspect for the murder of 45-year-old Yiannis Argyros was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Service of the Police Headquarters this morning, in order to conduct a thorough investigation and collection of evidence from the vehicle in which he had arrived and departed from the scene of the murder. The vehicle belongs, as the Court heard, to a relative of his.
From the investigation of the members of the Police inside the vehicle, important evidence allegedly related to the case was identified. According to the same information, knives were also found, which were received to be sent for scientific and other examinations to the special laboratories of the Police.
The same sources report that the 52-year-old still remains silent and does not cooperate with the investigative authorities.
At the same time, the investigations and examinations by the Limassol TAE continue at an intensive pace. In addition to the investigations that were conducted in specific areas for the identification of evidence, several persons from the friends and family environment of both the suspects and the victim are expected to testify. Testimonies will also be taken from residents of the murder scene, as well as from people who saw those involved before and after the commission of the crime.
The 52-year-old, who does not cooperate with the authorities, allegedly changed his shirt after the murder and went to a café of a relative in Agios Athanasios. There, he was upset and worried, while he confessed to various people that he killed the victim with a knife, leaving hints about the motives of the crime. According to another testimony, the suspect had also expressed his intention to harm the victim in the previous days. A folding knife and a mobile phone were found in his possession, while there was a knife case in his purse, but the knife was not found.
Various closed circuits of surveillance from premises in the area of Mesa Geitonia are also under study, which may have recorded the movements of the two suspects. Their movements to other places on the night of the murder are also being examined, based on testimonies collected by investigators.
The allegations of the 47-year-old suspect are also under investigation, who admitted that she was with the victim and the 52-year-old in the garage of the apartment building and that they used cocaine. He claims, however, that he did not see the moment of the murder, as he left around dawn to bring drugs at the urging of the 52-year-old. When he returned, he saw the 52-year-old suspect outside the garage with his shirt covered in blood. Then, they left together with the vehicle in which they had arrived. She claims that her 52-year-old partner confided to her that he killed the 45-year-old.
Finally, it is expected that the mobile phones of the two suspects will be sent for scientific and other examinations, in order to determine whether there was communication with other persons before and after the crime. The two are detained for a period of 8 days.

A three-day detention order was issued today by the Paphos District Court against the 18-year-old who was arrested yesterday by the Police after a serious incident that caused the previous one on a street in Tremithousa, Paphos, with two elderly women, mother and daughter, as victims.
According to the Police, the 18-year-old was allegedly annoyed by the way the two women drove and after getting out of his car, he hit the 80-year-old woman, causing her fractures and attacked her 63-year-old daughter, breaking her mobile phone.
According to the investigations, on Monday afternoon an 80-year-old woman was driving her car on a road in the community of Tremithousa in Paphos, followed by a second car driven by her daughter, 63 years old. The 18-year-old, who was on the same road, thought that the 80-year-old woman cut off his path and after parking his vehicle, got out and attacked the elderly driver. The young man allegedly forcibly pulled her out of the car and hit her, causing her serious injuries.
The 63-year-old woman ran to her mother's aid, and was also attacked by the 18-year-old who grabbed her mobile phone and broke it. An ambulance arrived at the scene, which was called by eyewitnesses and which transported the two women to the Paphos Hospital. The 80-year-old woman was found to have suffered a fracture and other injuries and was detained for hospitalization, while her daughter was discharged after providing first aid.
The Police, who also rushed to the scene of the incident, did not locate the 18-year-old, who disappeared from the scene after the attack on the two women. From the testimonies and investigations that followed, the Police identified the alleged perpetrator of the unprecedented episode, an arrest warrant was issued against him and yesterday he was located and arrested.
This morning, he was brought to the Paphos court, which issued a three-day detention order.

Five young foreigners, including a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old, were handcuffed by the Larnaca Police on Tuesday evening after a fight outside a café in Finikoudes that had an episodic development.
It all started when members of the police rushed to the café where there was a disturbance when the 16-year-old and the 18-year-old started fighting. They did not comply, according to information from police sources, and as a result they were arrested. Then a 19-year-old tried to prevent their arrest and was also found in handcuffs.
The three arrested were taken for interrogation to the Larnaca Police Department. At some point, however, two young men illegally entered the Larnaca ADE, resulting in their arrest.
The youths are expected to be charged in writing and released.

On-site searches have been continuing at an intensive pace since Wednesday morning at the place where the explosions occurred on Tuesday night in Limassol, in an area between the port and the casino.
