The trial for the horrific case of abuse of five children, for which a 48-year-old father and his wife, who allegedly abused them for years, have been detained, have been postponed. The defendants, who are facing very serious charges related to child trafficking, exploitation of minors and adults at work, sexual abuse and domestic violence, appeared today before the Permanent Assize Court of Larnaca, in order to answer whether or not they admit guilt.

In a procedure that was conducted behind closed doors, they asked, according to information from Filenews, to change defense counsel. For this reason, the case has been set for May 21, the date on which the defendants will be asked to answer the charges they face. Until then, they will remain in custody.

The father and mother were arrested around mid-March when one of the children confided in his school what he had been experiencing with his siblings in recent years. Subsequently, a complaint was filed with the special unit for violence against the family of the Larnaca TAE, members of which, after receiving videotaped testimonies from the children, put handcuffs on the 48-year-old and his wife.

Among the allegations is that the 48-year-old forced four of the five children to work in fields and livestock facilities for years, while some of them claimed that he repeatedly used violence against them. There are also allegations of abuse against the mother, who allegedly also beat the children. It is recalled that one child also reported sexual exploitation by the 48-year-old. As it was revealed, the family lived under miserable conditions in shacks between the livestock estates, which was damaged by fire a few days after the case was revealed.

It is recalled that the case had caused a stir and a storm of reactions, since the family had been monitored for years by the Social Welfare Services. For this reason, an administrative investigation was ordered by the Deputy Minister of Welfare, while an ex officio investigation is also being conducted by the Commissioner for Children's Rights.

The investigators of the Limassol Police Department are trying to unravel the tangle of the brutal murder of 45-year-old Yiannis Argyros, focusing on the motives that led to the murder. The victim has more than ten stab wounds to various parts of the body and neck, while the exact number will be clarified by the autopsy, which will be carried out today on his body, by the forensic pathologists Angeliki Papetta and Orthodox Orthodox.

At the center of the investigations have been placed – based on testimonies and evidence collected by the investigators – two key persons. A 52-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman, who were reportedly with the victim shortly before he was found dead by his mother on Sunday morning. The two suspects are expected to be brought before the Limassol Court today, with a request to be detained as suspects of premeditated murder. The first evidence shows that behind the murder are personal differences between the victim and the 52-year-old suspect.

According to information from "F", all three persons were together in the closed garage of the apartment building, where evidence referring to the use of drugs was found. The presumption has already been received by the authorities for scientific and other examinations. The 52-year-old was brought early to the Limassol ADE for interrogation, but he did not seem willing to cooperate with the authorities. According to the same information, he was arrested by members of the Police shortly before noon, in a café in Limassol. Witnesses report that the suspect allegedly told other people in the café that he "slaughtered the victim with a knife". It is worth noting that blood stains were found on his clothes, and specifically on his pants.

The 47-year-old was taken for questioning to the offices of the Limassol TAE, where she claimed that at some point she left the garage area. Yiannis Argyrou was found dead, on his back, on Sunday morning, in the closed garage of the apartment building. His mother, who had been looking for him since Saturday evening, repeatedly calling him on the phone, went in the morning to the place where she found her son dead. This particular parking lot belongs to the victim's family, was closed and was used by the victim. It was covered with a roller door, which was found slightly open.

In statements from the crime scene, the head of the Limassol TAE, Lefteris Kyriakou, confirmed that this was a criminal act and that the victim had been involved with the authorities. Around 9:30 a.m. yesterday we were informed that it had been located by the administrator of the apartment building and a relative of the 45-year-old, unconscious, in the parking lot of an apartment building in the area of Mesa Geitonia. Officers and members of the Limassol Police Department, as well as a team of the Ministry of Defense, the Assistant Chief of Operations, the Police Director and other officials immediately rushed to the scene," he pointed out.

It should be noted that until late Sunday afternoon, the knife had not been located, with investigators continuing the investigations at the residence of the 52-year-old suspect. At the same time, closed circuits were taken for study, both from the area where the murder was committed and from the area where the 52-year-old was arrested.
