Pafos Press

The phenomenon of fights between drunks, who cause disruption and nuisance many times even in broad daylight, has become an almost daily headache for residents of Agapinoros Street.

As repeatedly reported to PafosPress , residents of apartments on Agapinoros Street and other streets perpendicular to it , almost daily or every other day, right in front of their eyes, themselves and their children, are disturbed by a confrontation or a fight that arises between patrons of shops in the area.

As they report, they have reported these behaviours many times to both the City Hall and the Police, but the problem has not been solved. Many times, they claim, we have found strangers sleeping drunk at the entrance of our apartment building, urinating in public or breaking bottles, causing damage. Among other things, they report illegal parking, obstruction of normal traffic, uncontrolled use of sidewalks, occupation of private parking spaces within apartment buildings or at the entrance of residences and many more.

Many times, as they testify, a misunderstanding, a fight, or a street fight broke out at the same spot between strangers who, a few minutes earlier, may have been sitting together drinking alcohol.

Through PafosPress , readers of our page are requesting the renewed intervention of the Police, the Municipality of Pafos and the Health Department, believing that the situation has reached a dead end and if there is no solution, things may lead to undesirable situations, as they characteristically report.

A video clip sent to PafosPress shows half-naked men fighting, ending up in the middle of the road, shouting, arguing and causing chaos while passing cars try to pass them and avoid them.

Filenews

Crime in Limassol seems to be out of control, with three bombings occurring in just four days in the last week.

The Police Directorate is on alert, as the incidents cause great concern and raise serious questions about security in the city. Targets of the criminal actions, a beer hall manager, a doctor and a Syrian car electrician. In all three cases, low-power improvised explosive devices were used, but they caused extensive material damage.

Under the microscope of the investigations of the Limassol TAE, the possibility of linking the bombings to the same person who manufactures and possibly installs the explosive devices has been raised. Various items of evidence were received from all three criminal acts, which were sent for scientific examination. At the same time, closed circuits for monitoring the areas are also being studied.

Yesterday's bomb explosion occurred in the early hours of the morning in the area of Zakaki in Limassol. Specifically, around 5:25 a.m., an explosive device exploded, which had been placed at the entrance of the beer hall housed near a main road.

From the examinations carried out by the pyrotechnician, it was found that it was an improvised metal object of low power, while important evidence was received. However, the perpetrator or perpetrators seem to have made a big mistake at the time they "struck", as at that moment several citizens were on their way to work.

According to information from Filenews, the 27-year-old manager of the business, who only recently took over the management of the beer garden, told the authorities that he has no differences with anyone and does not suspect any specific person.

It is noted that around 02:10 on Tuesday morning (27/05) there was an explosion at the entrance of the house of a 70-year-old doctor in the Havouza area, in Limassol. According to the Police, from the examinations carried out, it was found that the explosion was due to the detonation of an improvised low-power explosive device, which had been placed on the wall of the steps of the house. The explosion caused damage to the glass balcony door, slight damage to the interior of the house, as well as to two adjacent parked vehicles.

An explosion also occurred around 3 a.m. on Monday in a car electrician's garage, owned by a 43-year-old Syrian man. According to the Police, the perpetrators placed an explosive device (low power) in front of the entrance. Damage was caused to the metal door and to a parked vehicle.

The five arrested as suspects in the case of state documents, including classified documents from the Central Prison, which were found in the house of a prison guard, are probably released today.

Although the Police made great efforts to locate new evidence or evidence that would justify a new request for their detention, no new data emerged to request a continuation of their detention. Faced with the possibility of rejecting any request for the renewal of the detention order of the four prison guards and a police officer, the Police are expected to proceed with their release. The five remain in custody due to their arrest and the suspicions that arose about their alleged involvement in this serious case.

Despite this development, the investigators of the TAE Operations Headquarters continue their investigations to clarify the case that has caused several discussions in the background about who is behind the thousands of documents that, as the Police reported to the Court a week ago, were in the offices of the Prison Directorate and moved in a specific period of time. The volume of documents, and especially the fact that they come from various services of a specific period, may be the most decisive factor, in conjunction with where these documents were located before they were moved.

What is certain is that they should not have been in the house of a prison guard in boxes within two rooms, which in itself, according to a person involved in the investigations, constitutes criminal offenses.

According to the information of "F", the next few days are decisive for the outcome of this very serious case and it is considered certain that other persons who were related to these documents will be summoned for interrogation or testimony.

As the investigator of the case reported to the Court, about 300,000 pages of documents were found in the prison guard's house, including confidential and confidential documents, and even some were the originals, a fact that is also considered to be a catalyst for the case, since a limited number of persons had access to them.

In fact, the Police, in order to get rid of the documents, have used a special program on the basis of a specialized machine that was previously purchased for an amount of a few million, to be used during the investigation of cases related to the collapse of the economy. This machine sorts documents based on keywords for the purpose of facilitating investigators.

At the same time, the analysis of the documents found along with the documents, such as usb and digital disks, continues to determine what they have stored. As reported to the Court during the detention proceedings of the five suspects, the discs contained videos recorded by the closed circuit surveillance of the prisons and it will now be established what exactly they contained and for what purpose they were kept for such a long time. The question of why the thousands of documents, which in many cases concerned trivial issues, were kept remains unanswered.

The Legal Service is informed about the course of the case so that the appropriate instructions can be given. As reported to "F" by a police source, the prison guard in whose house the documents were found will not be re-arrested for this case after he was released by the Court of Appeal for another case since such a thing would not serve any purpose and it is expected that after the end of the investigations the overall handling of the case will be decided.

The investigations of the Criminal Investigation Service of the Police Headquarters and the Limassol Police Headquarters are in full progress, in relation to the shots fired at 1 a.m., against a café housed on Franklin Roosevelt Avenue, in Zakaki.

This is the premises that were raided last Sunday, during which drugs and a sum of money exceeding €120,000 were found.

The tent remains under guard since Friday morning, while the main avenue remains closed to vehicular traffic. From the on-site examinations of the Ministry of Environment, shells have been identified and received, which were found on the street.

It should be noted that the perpetrators hit the glass façade of the premises with about five shots, while the bullets ended up in objects inside the cafeteria.

The investigators are expected to release the closed circuits of surveillance of both the café and other premises in the area.

The Limassol Police Department is deeply concerned by the latest criminal actions. It is not excluded that the attacks may be related to acts of retaliation between specific persons.

An investigative team has been set up for the latest criminal acts, which is investigating the five recent cases, in order to determine whether there is common evidence between the perpetrators.

It is no coincidence that the explosion that occurred around 03:50 in the morning of Friday (30/05), in the vehicle of a 26-year-old taxi driver, which was parked outside his home in Limassol, is not considered accidental.

Authorities are seriously considering the possibility that the explosion was linked to retaliation for the shooting, as the 26-year-old allegedly maintains friendly relations with the owner of the beer hall in Zakaki, the target of the attack in the early hours of Thursday.

From the on-site examinations of the 26-year-old's vehicle, it was found that the explosion was caused by the detonation of an improvised metal explosive device, which contained low-power explosive material. The explosion caused extensive damage to the vehicle.

An appeal against the decision of the Assize Court, which convened at the British Bases of Dhekelia, was filed by Kostas Sotiriou, alias Kotas, who was sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum sentence of 28 years, for the brutal murder of Charalambos Konstantinidis, 52, from Paralimni, last June.

According to information, his defense lawyer, Andros Anastasiou, submitted the appeal yesterday to the Court of British Bases, which will be forwarded to the British Court of Appeal, whose judges will rush to Cyprus to examine it. In the application, Mr. Anastasiou invokes 4 grounds of appeal concerning an incorrect finding of preliminary design and an incorrect finding of intention.

It is argued, moreover, that the preliminary study is confused with the prolonged exercise of violence and that the incidental testimony taken into account does not exclude any logical scenario that is consistent with the absence of a preliminary study. The convict, who is serving his sentence in BB prison and is not excluded from being transferred to Britain, admits to the crime, but denies that he planned it.

The Court of Assize of the Bases had imposed on the 46-year-old Kota one of the longest sentences ever imposed on BB. If convicted by a Assize Court of the Republic of Cyprus, he would again be sentenced to life imprisonment, however, he would have the right to apply for release for 12 years. Based on the sentence imposed on him in BB, he will have a corresponding right in 28 years.

It is recalled that the murder of the 52-year-old was committed on the evening of June 25 at the 46-year-old's car paint shop in Ormidia. The two had a financial difference and argued. Then the 46-year-old shot twice in the direction of the 52-year-old, injuring him in the face and then hit him in the head with an iron bar.

According to the data under investigation, on May 8, a postal parcel from a European country arrived at Larnaca Airport, which was checked by an officer of the Customs Department and 17 packages with the inscription "CBD", weighing 10 ml each, were found in it.

Papers for the preparation of handmade cigarettes and filters were also found in the package.

Samples of the products contained in the parcel were sent by the Customs Department for laboratory tests, from which it was found that the products contained the substance D9 – Tetrahydrocannabinol.

Following the laboratory tests, on May 28, the findings were handed over by the Customs Department for police examinations. Yesterday, May 29, members of the Police Force, by virtue of a court warrant, proceeded to the arrest of a 34-year-old man, who is alleged to be the recipient of the postal parcel.
