The police made two arrests last night for burglaries and thefts. In the first case, a 43-year-old man was arrested in connection with a case of burglary of a house and theft. The burglary was committed at a residence in the Paphos district, on the afternoon of May 5.

Two computers [one laptop-type and one tablet-type], a mobile phone, a loudspeaker and two pairs of sunglasses and reading glasses were stolen from the residence.

The 43-year-old was arrested, pursuant to a court warrant, after evidence emerged from the examinations carried out by the Peyia Police Station. In the second case, a 41-year-old man was arrested in connection with a case of burglary of a house and theft committed yesterday morning at a residence in Paphos.

The perpetrator allegedly stole the keys to the house, which were in the car of the owner of the house, which was parked and unlocked outside the house. A watch was also stolen from the vehicle. Another watch, an electric scooter, as well as a woman's wallet containing two bank cards were stolen from the residence. The 41-year-old was arrested around 11.30 on Friday evening, pursuant to a court warrant, following evidence that emerged from the examinations carried out by the Paphos TAE.

Quantities of duty-free tobacco, over 20 kilos, were detected and confiscated yesterday by the Police, during a check of a car, driven by a 42-year-old.

The vehicle was stopped around 7.30 p.m. yesterday on the Limassol – Paphos motorway, near Timi in the Paphos district, by members of the Road Accident Prevention Team. During the investigation that followed, a quantity of hookah tobacco, weighing 22.85 kg, and a quantity of tobacco, weighing 1.25 kg, were found and confiscated. A sum of €7,025 was also found and confiscated.

The confiscated products were handed over to officials of the Customs Department, who undertook the further investigation of the case.

Around 6.30 p.m. Yesterday, members of the Limassol Traffic Police, who were on a motorized patrol, spotted a motorcycle without registration numbers moving on a city street. The members of the Police signalled to the driver to stop for a check, but he developed speed, trying to avoid the control.

The police officers followed the motorcycle, the driver of which in his attempt to escape committed a series of traffic offenses. At a point on Franklin Roosevelt Avenue, the motorcycle collided with a car, causing it to be dragged to the ground, hit a pole and stall.

As it was later established, the driver of the motorcycle was a 25-year-old man, who suffered a fracture in the leg from the collision. He was transferred to the Limassol General Hospital, where he was detained for hospitalization.

In the possession of the 25-year-old, a quantity of methamphetamine, with a gross weight of 2.8 grams, was found, resulting in his arrest for the flagrant offense of illegal possession of drugs. He also underwent a preliminary drug test, with a positive indication.

From the continuation of the examinations, it was found that the 25-year-old was driving the motorcycle without a driver's license and without being covered by a safety certificate. It was also found that the motorcycle is declared immobilized, from 2024.

The 25-year-old, after being interrogated, was released from his detention, to be charged at a later stage, while he continues to be hospitalized at the Limassol General Hospital

A 37-year-old man is in custody, who allegedly attacked and insulted a police officer who stopped him for a check in Nicosia within the walls, with the Police investigating a series of offences, including assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.

The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, when a member of the Police stopped a man near the church of Agios Savvas and asked him to show his details. The man allegedly reacted strongly, insulted and pushed the policeman, before attempting to escape on foot.

According to the Police, the policeman chased him with his motorcycle and, when he approached him, he was attacked again, resulting in the member of the Force falling to the ground.

However, the Police Officer managed to arrest the 37-year-old, who faces the offenses of assault with the aim of causing actual bodily harm, assault against a police officer, resisting arrest and causing malicious damage to public property.

It is noted that the member of the Force went to the hospital for precautionary reasons.

Members of the Police, in the context of a coordinated operation, in cooperation with the pharmaceutical and health services, as well as members of the Crime Fighting Department of the Headquarters, conducted an investigation today with court warrants on two premises owned by a 43-year-old, as well as at his home in Larnaca.

During the investigations, more than 1,500 products, which were intended for sale and had indications that they contained prohibited and dangerous substances, were identified and seized.

The 43-year-old was arrested and detained, to facilitate the interrogations.

The examinations are ongoing.
