PACKAGE OF €660million FOR LIMASSOL

In his public address at the Lanitio Theatre, the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, presented the Government's comprehensive strategy for the Limassol district, with interventions that exceed €660 million in total cost. As he characteristically stressed: "Economic growth has value when it serves the whole of society, supports social cohesion and ensures equal opportunities for all."

According to a statement by the Presidency, projects and policies with a strong social significance were presented, from the implementation of a new framework for Turkish Cypriot properties, to the support of housing for young and vulnerable groups. Major infrastructure projects such as the Northern Bypass Road, the Limassol-Saita road and the Pentakomos Technology Park were also presented, as well as projects of environmental and cultural importance. As the President underlined: "Limassol is the heart of the development of Cyprus and together we are building a sustainable, resilient, dynamic city – a model for the whole country".

Important interventions include:

· 138 social housing apartments in Agios Nikolaos (€16 million)

· 500 student residences (€56 million)

· Limassol North Bypass (€200 million)

· Second Development Pole of CUT (€104 million)

· Upgrade of the Limassol General Hospital (€21 million)

· Integrated package for the upgrade of refugee apartment buildings (€25.9 million)

· Sustainable mobility projects (cycle lanes, bus lanes, transfer stations)

· Water policy and flood protection projects

· Cultural and community infrastructure in urban and mountain areas

"Politics must be exercised close to the citizens, through continuous dialogue and cooperation. Limassol is changing. And with it, Cyprus is changing," the President concluded.

1. SOCIAL POLICY – HOUSING – HEALTH – WELFARE

Total cost: more than €120 million

·      Social housing project of Agios Nikolaos in collaboration with KAG 138 apartments at a cost of €16 million

·      Renovation – upgrade of refugee apartment buildings:

o 8 new apartment buildings through the "KTIZO" program €7.6 million

o Maintenance of 37 existing apartment buildings: €8.3 million

o Grants for repairs to apartment buildings with minor structural problems: €10 million

· New framework for the management of Turkish Cypriot properties (eligibility and points system)

·      Student residences CUT: €56 million (Berengaria).

·      "KtiZO" program and social support of Turkish Cypriot Properties with a new management framework.

·      Implementation of a transitional therapeutic program "Bridge" for adults with autism and operation of a Special Center in Limassol.

·      New childcare and 24-hour care units:

o Creation of a Child Care Center at the Multipurpose Center of the Municipality of Amathous: €2.9 million

o Grant of the Community Volunteer Council of Moutagiaka for the Renovation – expansion of the nursery for children up to 4 years old: €330,000

o Radical renovation and upgrade of a 24-hour Care Center for the Elderly in Vasa Koilaniou that serves the Complex of Communities of Wine Villages and a 24-hour Care Center for Adults with Long-term Care needs in the Kouri-Xylourikos Complex: €1 million

·      Upgrade of Limassol General Hospital: €21 million 

o New ICU, Dialysis, Ambulance, Infectious Diseases, Medical Equipment.

o Rapid Movement Clinic (new announcement).

·      "Red Button" Program for the Elderly (coordinated by Limassol).

2. INFRASTRUCTURE – TRANSPORT – TRAFFIC

Total cost: more than €420 million 

• North Bypass: €200,000 – studies and projects by departments.

• Limassol – Saita road axis:

• Phase A1: €26 million

• Phase A2: €70 million

• Aktaia Odos – Agios Fylaxeos – Agios Athanasios: planning routes.

• Bus lanes – bicycle lanes – coastal front:

• €9.5 million + €6 million. + €3.8 million in Ypsonas.

• New Transfer Stations:

• Alpha Mega, Ag. Tychon, Tsirio, Kato Polemidia: >€4 million

• Redevelopment of Heroes' Square: €5.5 million (European funding).

• Coastal pedestrian street and new park of Agios Ioannis: €1.1 million

3. DEVELOPMENT – INNOVATION – CULTURE – EDUCATION

Total cost: more than €140 million

 Pentakomos Technology Park: tender announcement before the summer.

• Second Development Pole of CUT: €104 million

• New Limassol Technical School: under construction.

• Pilot operation of a Technical High School: at the Gymnasium of Polemidia.

• New special schools: Apostle Luke and Red Cross: >€13 million

• New schools & extensions:

• Elementary and Kindergarten: €6.8 million

• Technique B: €6.5 million

• Sixth Primary & Kindergarten: €5.3 million

• Second Primary School of Kolossi: €4.3 million

• Ypsonas – Kindergarten: €1.3 million

• Upgrade of the Local Museum of Curium: €2.8 million

• Cultural – community projects:

• Kyperounta Center, Fasoula Botanical Park, Agridia Observatory.

• Anogyra Square, redevelopment of Kyperounta.

4. ENVIRONMENT – GREEN POLICY

Total cost: more than €60 million

• Upgrade of Limassol OEDA.

• Sewerage networks of Pyrgos – Parekklisia: €15.5 million

• Two mobile desalination plants in Garylli & Port.

• 100% funding for water loss reduction:

• €8 million for 2025 + €1 million per year (2025–2027).

• Flood protection project of the river Amathos in Germasogeia: €4.5 million

• Smart lighting – digital parking management: >€7.7million

5. SPORTS – EUROBASKET – TOURISM

Total cost: ~€22 million 

• Renovation of the "Spyros Kyprianou" stadium: >€14 million

• Upgrade of the Tsirio Stadium: €8 million

• Promotion of Limassol through international hospitality (Eurobasket 2025).

6. EUROPEAN PRESIDENCY – CYPRUS 2026

· The President announced the organization of 225 events throughout Cyprus in the framework of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2026 – 15 of them informal Ministerial Meetings, with the intention of some to take place in Limassol.
