The Asylum Service is entering a new era with the construction of its new headquarters, a project with a total cost of €12,438,000 plus VAT, which is proceeding at a rapid pace under the supervision of the Department of Public Works.

The construction of the new building, co-financed with the amount of €8.5 million by the Swiss Confederation, is a milestone in the effort to strengthen the infrastructure for the management of asylum claims in Cyprus.

The construction contract was awarded to A. Aristotelous Constructions Ltd on May 22, 2024.

The project is already underway, as construction work officially began on June 5, 2024, with completion expected by December 5, 2026.

The contract also includes a 12-year maintenance period, which extends the contractor's liability until December 2038, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the investment.

Today, the Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection holds the foundation stone laying ceremony, in the presence of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, officially marking the start of construction.

The new building, with a total area of approximately 5,600 square meters, will be three-storey, with a basement of 2,400 sq.m., a ground floor of 1,700 sq.m. and a first floor of 1,500 sq.m.

The architectural study comes from the Department of Urban Planning and Housing and has been designed to functionally and effectively serve the needs of the Asylum Service.

In addition to the construction of the building, the project includes the demolition of existing infrastructure, the installation of modern electrical, mechanical and electronic systems, as well as the complete furnishing of the premises.

In addition, extensive landscaping of the surrounding area is planned, with landscaping, tree planting, irrigation, construction of sidewalks, roads and parking lots, as well as the construction of an EAC substation.

An upgrade of the pedestrian infrastructure around the plot will also be carried out, aiming at safety and accessibility.

It is expected to be an important tool in enhancing the functionality and service of refugees and asylum seekers, strengthening the structures of the state in the field of migration.
