A bill submitted today to the Plenary Session of the Parliament, obliges school administrations to communicate by phone with the parents and guardians of children who are absent from class unjustifiably and without notice. At the same time, in case telephone communication is not possible, they will inform the Police.
The purpose of the law proposals of the MP, Marios Mavridis, on behalf of the DISY parliamentary group, is to amend the Private Schools Law, the Children Law and the Primary and Secondary Education laws, so that each parent or guardian has the obligation to always inform the school management in advance of the student's absence. If it fails to do so, the school will be obliged to contact the parents/guardians of the students by telephone in case of their absence from the school, within one hour from the specified time of the start of the school student's attendance.
Furthermore, the school management, in case the parent/guardian is not informed about the student's absence, has an obligation to inform the Police about the student's absence if it is not possible to contact the student's parent/guardian or the three contact persons declared for this purpose.
It is noted that the proposed laws concern both public and private education schools of all levels, as well as kindergartens or home kindergartens.
