A beautiful migratory eagle, of the kind of fishing eagles that feed exclusively on fish, was found injured in the area of the Mavrokolympos dam.
Residents of Peyia spotted the eagle with a broken right wing in the area of the Mavrokolymbos dam. From the first examinations, it was found that his injury was not caused by pellets and it is speculated that his injury was probably due to a violent impact on the ground for an unknown cause.
The majestic eagle, which is one of the four migratory eagle species that pass through Cyprus in spring and autumn, will be transferred to the hunting service's clinic in Nicosia and once ready to fly again it will be released to continue its journey, south to Africa.
The osprey belongs to the Pandionides family, is a migratory bird and is characterized as a cosmopolitan species of eagle, since it is found in North and South America, the Caribbean, Africa, Europe, Asia and Oceania. In South America and Southeast Asia it does not breed but is only a winter visitor.
The populations of North America migrate to South America and the Caribbean, those of Europe to Africa, and those of Asia north of the Himalayas in southern Asia.
