SOLUTION TO THE WATER PROBLEM FROM THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES - THEY WILL SEND 15 DESALINATION UNITS

 Filenews 24 April 2025

Cyprus requested assistance from the United Arab Emirates in dealing with the water problem, which appears to be extremely serious, and they responded immediately to the request.

This was revealed by the President of the Republic in an interview with ANT1, which will be broadcast tonight. He noted that this aid will cover the water needs for the rest of 2025 and until the implementation of the announced measures for 2026

Despite the emergency and long-term measures already announced, Cyprus is at risk of water supply cuts during the summer months.

The daily water needs that are not covered by the reserves and the existing desalination plants reach 15,000 cubic meters per day. As ANT1 reports, according to its information, the solution provided by the United Arab Emirates concerns 15 mobile desalination plants, with the capacity to produce up to 1,100 cubic meters of water each, which will fully cover the needs of Cyprus.

The Minister of Agriculture, Maria Panagiotou, and a team of officials from the Water Department visited the United Arab Emirates to inspect the units and found that they can be directly connected to the Cypriot water supply system. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Konstantinos Kombos, ratified the agreement during his visit to Abu Dhabi.

According to the information collected by ANT1, there were no mobile desalination plants available in the international market to meet the needs of Cyprus, so the solution provided by the United Arab Emirates is truly lifesaver.
