The Cyprus Party for the Animals appeals to the municipalities and communities of Cyprus to ban any activities with animals during the Easter period, calling for respect for their rights and avoidance of mistreatment.
In a statement, the party emphasizes that animals such as donkeys, pigs, chickens and pigeons are used in various festivities, practices that – as it points out – "afflict, abuse and humiliate animals", even if they are part of traditional customs.
"Animals are neither toys nor disposable objects," the Party for the Animals says, adding that Cyprus, as a European country, must operate on the basis of the principle of protection of sentient beings.
"They feel pain, fear, thirst, discomfort, cold and heat and should not be used as a means of entertainment," it says. The party underlines that such practices are not in line with the spirit of the day.
In conclusion, the Party for the Animals wishes that Easter 2025 will be "a real Easter of love without slaughter of innocent animals, without exploitation, humiliation, suffering or slander".
