The Parliament lit up red in the effort of the Minister of Justice to implement the new regulations for the control of lampratzia from this year, while there are still disagreements from the Union of Municipalities that do not allow the immediate implementation of the law under passing.
The revised text of the bill was discussed today in the Legal Committee of the Parliament with the Minister of Justice Marios Hartsiotis making a last effort to have the new bill voted and implemented from this Easter. Despite the fact that the differences with the Union of Municipalities have been reduced, however, the main thorn remains who will give permission for the organization of the lambratzia.
The Union of Municipalities essentially wants the permission to be given by the Police and the Fire Brigade since they will be asked to approve the terms, something that the Ministry of Justice does not want.
Another point of conflict is the timing of the implementation of the new legislation. The Ministry of Justice wants immediate implementation by Municipalities and communities from 1/1/2026.
With these data and provided that the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament request the submission of bills to the Plenary 48 hours in advance, the Deputy Chairwoman of the Legal Affairs Committee, Fotini Tsiridou, closed the debate with the issue remaining open since the bill remains suspended and will not be voted on tomorrow.
