The Municipality of Ierokipia continues to negotiate with a private individual the charter of a small train that will run the route from the coastal tourist area of the Municipality to the central square of Geroskipou, in order for the thousands of tourists of the area to get to know the monuments and other points of interest of Geroskipou instead of just its beach, as is the case today.
Speaking to "F", the Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Ierokipia, Andreas Siikkis, pointed out that the train has already been imported by the private individual in Cyprus. At the moment, we are working with him on the terms of a possible permanent cooperation, he said, in order for tourists from the hotels on the beach of Geroskipou to have the opportunity to go to the center of the Municipality, where there are important monuments such as the church of Agia Paraskevi, the Folklore Museum, the Byzantine Museum of the Metropolis of Paphos, Kato Vrysi and many others.
The new Municipality of Ierokipia and especially its capital, Geroskipou, needs a restart in all matters, since in recent years it has lacked works and imagination, pointing out that there is a very important tourist flow to the Municipality which, however, is limited to hotels and the beach, completely ignoring the sights that the wider area offers.
We are aware of the impact and economic activity that they offer to tourist enrichment, e.g., the popular neighbourhoods in the cities that exist, he emphasizes. Here we must say that the issue of the popular neighborhood has been discussed in the Municipality of Geroskipou for 20 years without exaggeration. We can make this popular neighborhood part of our lives, to make the cobbled streets with the small yards and the flowers in the pots again, to illuminate another part of our city center that only transmits today is abandonment and misery without quality of life.
All this can be done, says Mr. Siikkis, with financial incentives to the owners, so that their premises can be utilized, offering them the opportunity to expand into new areas of action, for example by building small traditional cafes, cafes, hangouts where the tourist and we can have the choice to enjoy our coffee or food.
If our effort for the train is successful, he said, I believe that Geroskipou will gain a very significant dynamic and a new breath.
What we want to achieve is that the foreign visitor does not come to take a look at our clientele and the church and leave for elsewhere, Andreas Siikkis points out, concluding that there is also concern about the construction of a second municipal parking lot, which will be so necessary for the development of the area.
