Interest has been shown by four economic operators for the installation of a mobile desalination plant in Paphos in the area of the municipal district of Kissonerga of the Municipality of Akamas with a capacity of 10,000m3 cubic meters per day. The production of desalinated water based on the submitted bids ranges from €1.17 per cubic meter to €2.20 per cubic meter. Proposals were submitted by the following companies: SYCHEM SA €1.17/sq.m., SK ENGINEERING AND PROJECTS LT €2.20/sq.m., RIMON CONSULTING and MANAGEMENT SERVICES LTD €2.03/sq.m. and CARAMONDANI DESALINATION PLANTS LTD €2.00/sq.m.
After the unsealing of the bids on 27/3/2025, their evaluation and the award of the contract will follow in May 2025.
It is noted that the preparation of a preliminary hydraulic study for the accompanying projects for the connection of the unit with the existing infrastructure has been completed, consultations with the competent Bodies/Departments (Department of Environment, Department of Fisheries and Marine Research, Deputy Ministry of Shipping, Deputy Ministry of Tourism, Department of Urban Planning and Housing, Department of Public Works, Department of Antiquities, Cyprus Electricity Authority), the land has been secured through the Department of Lands and Surveys, the Project Note has been approved by DG Development, the Urban Planning Consent has been secured.
At the same time, the Water Development Department is working on pending issues that may cause a delay in the implementation schedule. Among other things, it is necessary to obtain a permit for the installation of infrastructure within the beach zone.
