A serious incident is being investigated by the Paphos police after the detection of an injured person in the village of Mandria. He is a 31-year-old Armenian who was found at 2 after midnight injured in both legs.

According to the assistant police director of Paphos, Michalis Nicolaou, a police patrol found the 31-year-old injured on the ground in an area of Mandria.

He claimed that two unknown persons who approached him and took him to a deserted area that he indicated to the authorities, shot on the ground, near his feet, resulting in fragments from the bullets injuring him.

According to what he reported to the police, the perpetrators took away his mobile phone and wallet.
He was transferred to the Paphos General Hospital, where he was detained for treatment. Mr. Nicolaou stated that the injured person is a person who has previously occupied the authorities with various cases. They expect him to give some direction with his testimony in order to clarify the case.

Evidence that refers to the repeated use of gas through a balloon, as a substitute for drugs by the 17-year-old who lost his life, is in the possession of the police. The members of the team investigating the case have already received testimonies from relatives and friends of the 17-year-old, as well as from the environment of his four peers who were with him on Sunday night when the teenager collapsed after inhaling LPG.

According to information, an investigation into the bedroom of the 17-year-old who collapsed on Sunday found two empty gas canisters, similar to those found on the roof of the school.

The new evidence, according to a police source, demonstrates the systematic use of the lethal gas that ultimately led to the death of the teenager.

The Police are investigating a case of attack against a 23-year-old food delivery man, which took place on the evening of Tuesday, April 29 in the Germasogeia area, in Limassol.

Specifically, around 8 p.m., information was received from the Police about an injured person in the area in question.

Members of the Police went to the scene, where they located a 23-year-old man, who reported that a few minutes earlier, while driving his motorcycle, he was attacked by two unknown persons who were also riding a motorcycle. 

The perpetrators allegedly pushed him, throwing him off his motorcycle and then attacked and beat him.

The 23-year-old was transported by ambulance to the Limassol General Hospital, where he was provided with first aid and was detained for further hospitalization.

A new case with a minor child as a victim is being investigated by the Police in Paphos.

This time it concerns an attempted sexual abuse of a 12-year-old girl by a man, while the child was going to the high school where she attends.

A relevant complaint was made to the Paphos Police on Tuesday by the Romanian father of a 12-year-old girl. According to her, a Syrian man was outside his daughter's high school when she went to school in the morning and after putting her in his car, he drove her to a secluded place where he made gestures and obscene proposals.

Based on police investigations, the father was notified by the high school administration that his daughter did not show up for class in the morning, but was seen entering the school at one o'clock in the afternoon, getting out of a stranger's car. The father immediately alerted the Police, reporting an attempted sexual abuse of his 12-year-old daughter by a specific person of Syrian origin resident of Paphos.

The Police proceeded to the arrest of a suspect who was detained and today he is expected to be brought before the Paphos District Court for the issuance of a detention order.

The case is being examined by the department responsible for vulnerable groups of the population, the Police Headquarters.

Update - An eight-day detention order was issued by the Paphos District Court, which met behind closed doors, against the suspect in the case of attempted sexual abuse of the 12-year-old girl in Paphos.   The procedure was conducted behind closed doors for the protection of the minor and her relatives.

An 8-day detention order was issued by the Larnaca District Court against 6 young people from Syria, two 16-year-olds, two 17-year-olds, an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old, in connection with seven robberies committed in the city from 21 to 26 April.

It is recalled that the six young men were arrested after an evaluation of information received by the Larnaca TAEArrest warrants had been issued against them and around 8:30 last night they were located in the city of Larnaca. Offences of conspiracy to commit a felony, robbery, assault with the intention of stealing, assault causing actual bodily harm are being investigated against them.

The foreigners allegedly attacked persons walking alone, mainly foreigners, and forcibly grabbed their wallets, mobile phones and other personal belongings. Two people, in fact, suffered bodily injuries, according to the Police.

Most of the young people, according to information from Filenews from police sources, have been involved in thefts and burglaries in the past.

The TAE of Larnaca is investigating whether the suspects are also related to cases of burglaries and thefts that were reported recently in Larnaca.

Six people were arrested on Monday morning during a coordinated operation by the Police in an abandoned premises in Limassol, as part of actions to tackle illegal residence and drug trafficking.

Members of the Anti-Narcotics Service (YKAN), the Aliens and Immigration Service (YAM), as well as the Crime Prevention Unit of the Limassol Police Directorate participated in the operation, following an evaluation of relevant information.

Eleven foreigners were found at the site, six of whom were found to be illegally residing in the Republic of Cyprus and were arrested.

During a search carried out at the premises, the Police located and confiscated a bag containing a total of 27 packages of cannabis, weighing about 22 grams, and 29 packages of methamphetamine, weighing a total of about 13 grams.

The YKAN in cooperation with the YAM continue the examinations for the complete clarification of the case.

The coordinated operations of the Police and various state services continued on Tuesday in Nicosia within the walls, in the context of the effort to strengthen the feeling of security and legality in the area.

Today's operation was carried out in shops and small businesses and is part of the broader initiative of the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Marios Hartsiotis. Members of the Aliens and Immigration Service, the Nicosia OPE, Group Z, the Ledra Substation, as well as officers of the Fire Service, the Health Services of the Nicosia Municipality, the Taxation Department, the District Local Government Organization and the Management Branch participated Turkish Cypriot Properties.

As part of the police checks:

  • 72 persons were checked
  • 3 people arrested for illegal stay in the Republic of Cyprus
  • 2 people arrested for illegal employment
  • 119 traffic checks were carried out
  • 10 complaints for traffic violations were recorded

At the same time, officials of the other services identified health deficiencies and safety issues in specific premises, which will be handled by the competent authorities.

Operations are expected to continue in the coming days, with the aim of consolidating order and enhancing the feeling of security among residents and visitors of the area.

The outbreak of youth violence in Cyprus is taking on increasing dimensions, with the incidents that concern the Police one after the other and causing intense concern. A new serious case, in which minors are involved, with one of them being only 13 years old.

According to information, the incident occurred on April 24 at noon, in a park in Pano Polemidia. The victim was a minor, who, while he was in the park waiting for a gym to open near the park, was approached by an unknown person who had his face covered. The perpetrator approached him and in a threatening mood pressed him to answer him from which area he came from and why he was in this particular park.

The minor, who should be noted that he is on the autism spectrum, did not answer, resulting in five people surrounding him, 4 of whom had their faces covered. According to the complaint, the perpetrators began to threaten him, trying to extract his bag. After throwing a chair at him, causing him to fall to the ground, they began to kick him in the body, causing him injuries. The attack stopped when a citizen intervened who noticed the incident and the juvenile perpetrators ran away.

The complainant went to the hospital, where it was found that he had abrasions and bruises on his chest. As he testified to the Police, he recognized one of the perpetrators, who did not have a face covered, mentioning that they attend the same school.

After police investigations, a 16-year-old student of the 3rd Gymnasium was identified, who was arrested yesterday afternoon. In a testimony he gave in the presence of his father and his lawyer, the juvenile suspect admitted that he was at the scene with two other minors, while he claimed that he simply pushed and asked a question of the complainant, while the others threw him down and beat him.

The 16-year-old suspect was brought before the Limassol Court today, with the investigators of the case requesting his detention for three days, a request which was approved by the Court in a closed procedure. He is being investigated for offences relating to conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor and assault causing actual bodily harm.

For the case, a person, aged 16.5 years, who had been named, was wanted. According to the Police, the minor was arrested yesterday at noon. As for the 13-year-old allegedly involved in the attack, the Police will follow the procedure provided by the law for minors under 14 years of age.

The investigators continue the investigations and examine material from closed circuit surveillance of the area, in an attempt to identify the other persons involved.
