The Police arrested yesterday a 23-year-old man who was wanted for facilitating investigations in a case of conspiracy to commit a felony, assault causing grievous bodily harm, mob and other offenses, committed in Paphos, in the early hours of March 30, 2025.

This is the fifth arrest involving the beating of five Pafiakos volleyball players during the celebration of the conquest of the Cyprus Cup.

It is recalled that while the volleyball players of Pafiakos were having fun, having with them the Cup they won earlier, a group of patrons of the same recreation center asked to lift the cup as well, a request that the players satisfied.

However, the alleged perpetrators of the incident began to exhibit anti-social behaviour, initially refusing to give back the cup and then, after handing it over, they refused to give some bottles of drinks that were inside.

The people of the club reacted to this behaviour and things got out of hand with five people attacking players, beating them and sending them to the hospital.

On duty, doctors found that two of them had fractures of the nasal bone, while the other three had lighter wounds.

The authorities consider the frequent fires in the Paphos district and these first months of the summer season to be the work of arsonists who in most cases act simply to create problems and without obvious targeting.

On the occasion of yesterday's fire that broke out in the community of Skoulli in the Chrysochous district and which is considered malicious after five different outbreaks were identified, officials of the Fire Brigade and representatives of the Local Government authorities of Paphos denounce that the fires that have already been recorded in the province for two months now point towards the side of malicious actions people who are pyromaniacs and who act without specific targeting. For this reason, they stress, the involvement of local communities in dealing with such actions is of paramount importance.

Yesterday's fire broke out in a rural area and for its complete extinguishing was a coordinated operation of the firefighting forces in progress from the very first moment. It burned areas with trees, crops, irrigation hoses, wild vegetation and dry grasses, while it was kept away from residential areas. Two Air Tractor firefighting planes of the Forestry Department, forces of the Fire Service, the Forestry Department, the Game Service and crews of the local authorities, who created fire zones, rushed to the scene and are operating.
