The outages and disconnection of photovoltaic systems, which have increased recently, have caused great debates, both among citizens and among those in charge, who are looking for solutions.
In the midst of all this turmoil, some citizens have found a way to slip away from the cuts, while at the same time loading additional cuts to their system on the backs of other consumers.
According to information from "F", this practice was allegedly followed by a businessman, who tried in an illegal way to "intercept" the cuts from his own commercial photovoltaic system.
As we are in a position to know, EAC not only identified this particular case, but has even filed a complaint with the Police and is expected to take legal action against the businessman.
EAC has found the solution
The same information states that EAC can now identify all cases of consumers/entrepreneurs who are trying to prevent outages in their photovoltaic system. And it can proceed with complaints and/or take other measures in these cases. More specifically, as it was conveyed to "F", in case EAC detects such illegal interventions, has the right to disconnect the photovoltaic system, whether it is residential or commercial, and not to allow its reoperation.
They are "running" for "zero export"
At the same time, on the issue of cuts, the parliamentary Energy Committee is discussing a relevant law proposal proposed by the chairman of the Committee and MP of DISY, Kyriakos Hatzigiannis.
In particular, with the proposed law, it proposes to enable consumers of domestic photovoltaics to continue producing for their own consumption, when it is decided to cut off their system from the electricity grid.
Although this proposal is being positively received, some reservations have been expressed and it has not yet been clarified the costs that consumers will bear, since this solution requires technical changes in photovoltaic systems.
What about the new connections
In the previous days, confusion had been caused after the leak of a draft announcement by the EAC Distribution System Operator, through which it appeared that there were thoughts to put on ice the new applications for the connection of photovoltaic net metering and net billing to the electricity system, something that EAC clarified a little later, since through its announcement it announced that the Distribution System Operator (DSO) will continue to receive applications for this project until 1 August 2025.

A development has occurred in the trial of former Commissioner for Volunteering, Yiannis Yiannaki, with the defendant admitting guilt to three charges of forgery and circulation of a false document during Wednesday’s court hearing.
However, he did not admit to circulating a letter of recommendation or the charges related to the forgery of those documents.
During the presentation of the facts in the Yiannaki case, the court was shown a video previously posted on the Ministry of Education’s website. The video depicted Yiannaki addressing young people about social inequalities among their peers and the importance of cultivating those inequalities.
At one point in his address, he stated that he had studied civil engineering with a focus on political science.
The defendant’s laptop and USB drive were submitted to the court as evidence to determine if there was any connection to the University of San Diego in Texas, specifically whether Yiannaki had conducted any searches related to his degree.
Examination of the laptop’s search history revealed 26 Google searches and 83 visits to the University of San Diego’s website concerning the process for grading his degree.
The trial has been adjourned until 8 April for a new witness to testify.

A medical negligence complaint filed by the relatives of an Indian man who died on the operating table at Larnaca General Hospital five years ago remains unresolved, as the State Health Services Organisation (SHSO) has been unable to appoint a doctor to assist police inquiries.
In a last-ditch effort to advance the investigation, the family’s lawyer, Pieros Zapounis, has written to the Attorney General and the Justice Minister requesting either the appointment of an independent medical professional to aid the police investigation or permission for the family to pursue private criminal proceedings with the state covering legal costs.
The letter also raises a potential conflict of interest for the Attorney General, who would be representing the doctors in a civil lawsuit filed by the family while simultaneously being responsible for considering their potential criminal liability.
The case concerns 25-year-old Kulwinder Singh from India, who was admitted to Larnaca Hospital on 20 April 2020 with a toothache and received treatment instructions. He returned to the hospital on 22 April in a worsening condition with an abscess and was immediately scheduled for surgery. The 25-year-old “died after not waking up from the anaesthetic,” according to the family’s lawyer. A complaint was subsequently filed with the police to investigate potential medical negligence, supported by doctors’ testimonies and a coroner’s inquest. However, the investigation remains incomplete five years later due to the inability of any public sector doctor to assist.
In his recent letter to the Attorney General and Justice Minister, the family’s lawyer informed them of two medical expert reports commissioned by the deceased’s family, which have identified certain findings. He requested that instructions be given to the police to commence interrogations of all involved parties.
Zapounis argued that the five-year delay, citing the inability to find and appoint a doctor to review the evidence and provide a medical report, is unacceptable. He stressed that even if no doctor within the Republic is willing to undertake this task, mechanisms exist to appoint a doctor from abroad to assist the police investigation. “We implore you to show the utmost sensitivity and not hide behind bureaucratic obstacles, and to proceed immediately to clarify the case,” the lawyer stated.
The letter also noted that the deceased’s family has filed a civil lawsuit for damages in the Larnaca District Court against the Republic of Cyprus, the involved doctors, and others. The Attorney General represents both the Republic and some of the defendant doctors.
Given the Attorney General’s dual role as the state’s legal advisor and the authority responsible for deciding on criminal prosecutions, the letter questioned how he could represent the involved doctors in a lawsuit while simultaneously consenting to or overseeing a police investigation into their potential criminal offences, concluding that there is a serious conflict of interest that requires immediate resolution.
