The problems and inconvenience to which patients, doctors, pharmacists and other health professionals of the GHS have been subjected since last October, due to the frequent interruptions in the operation of the System's software, were discussed today in the Parliamentary Committee on Health.

The representative of the company, which is contracted with the Health Insurance Organization and manages the IT system, apologized for the situation that has been created and hinders the smooth operation of the General Health System and pledged that efforts are being made to solve the problem as quickly as possible.

The next three months were set as a timetable for resolving the problem, with the Director General of the HIO, Iphigenia Kammitsi, stressing that "the GHS software is one of the greatest advantages of the System. From the first day of implementation of the GHS until last October," he said, "the software has proven both its reliability and its value and therefore, what needs to be done now is to fill the gap that has been created in order to return the IT system to its normal flow."

The representative of the managing company explained that "there was a forced reorganization of the project team, we had the departure of the subcontractor, problems arose that we were not aware of. We are preparing a report of events, we have already found several issues and we are in communication with the HIO. It is a matter of time to solve them, there is a program to solve these problems".

At the same time, he said that the problem, "in all likelihood we will be able to solve it completely and the software will return to its previous operation in one to two months", with the general director of the Organization giving a timetable to the Parliament in three months, stressing that "we must be sure that we will fulfil our commitment".
