With a proposal for a law already before the Plenary today, Parliament will fill the gap created in the General Health System by yesterday's court decision, according to which doctors outside the GHS can prescribe within the System.

The Parliamentary Committee on Health discussed today an emergency relevant proposal for a law, which had already been prepared and it was decided to submit it in the afternoon to the plenary of the House so that there would be no delay in voting on the changes proposed to the legislation of the General Health System.

The chairman of the Committee, Efthymios Diplaros, had announced his intention to promote the relevant law proposal in the morning, stressing that the Court's decision jeopardizes the philosophy and architecture of the GHS and at the same time "causes serious practical and not only problems to the System".

The amendment fills the gap on which the Court of Justice based, which ruled that the word "doctor" in the provisions concerning the dispensing of prescriptions by GHS pharmacists does not distinguish whether the "doctor" must be contracted to the HIO or not.

In essence, the amendment adds the two words next to the word "doctor" so that the "doctor – contracted with the GHS".
