The State Health Services Organization (OKYpY) provides important data for the upgrade of the Paphos General Hospital, noting that in recent years over €21.8 million have been allocated for both building infrastructure (€15,083,054) and for the purchase and installation of medical equipment (€6,766,796.92), with the aim of making the hospital competitive with the private sector.
In a statement, the OKYpY strongly denies yesterday's statements by the Mayor of Paphos to the media and calls on him, if he has evidence, to submit it to the Police. Otherwise, it calls on him to retract and apologize.
Specifically, OKYpY reports that €15,083,05 were invested in projects such as the creation of a new modern Haemodialysis Unit, which has been completed, at a cost of €4,509,624, as well as the expansion of the Accident and Emergency Department (TAEP), at a cost of €2,239,807.71.
In addition, the construction of the Short-Term Hospitalization Department is progressing, costing €1,039,432, while the configuration of the 4th floor for mother and child services, which concerns the Gynaecology/Obstetrics and Paediatric Department, is in progress. Upon completion of the projects, the existing Paediatric Ward will be converted into an autonomous Pulmonary Clinic, at a cost of €4,531,155.41. Work is also underway to create new Administration offices, at a total cost of €1,447,804.86.
At the same time, projects such as the procurement, installation and upgrade of the air conditioning system, which cost €721,230, as well as the change of the nurse call system, at a cost of €594,000, were completed.
Regarding medical equipment, the OKYpY notes that important machines have been purchased, including a new 128-slice CT scanner, worth €1,011,500, ultrasounds, costing €535,000, as well as portable digital X-ray machines, worth €250,499.76 . Also, surgical tables have been purchased, costing €388,473.12, monitoring screens with a central station worth €205,225.02, laparoscopic equipment worth €178,053.75 and surgical lights, which cost €232,918.70.
Additionally, anaesthesia machines were acquired, costing €215,205.55, ICU beds, worth €209,440.00, biochemical analyzers, totalling €208,250, as well as other medical equipment, worth €3,510,106.72. The total cost of the equipment amounts to €6,766,796.92.
The Hellenic Hospital Authority emphasizes that holding any position does not give anyone the right to make untrue and unsubstantiated claims, with the aim of harming the Hospital and an Organization that has provided and continues to provide important services, saving thousands of lives.
He also points out that the continuous slander and disparagement of the Paphos General Hospital by the same individual, instead of supporting it, should concern society and patients as to the purpose of this practice.
Finally, the OKYpY calls on the Mayor of Paphos, if he wishes to be informed about mortality and the relevant factors, to contact the competent authorities, such as the Ministry of Health and the Health Insurance Organization (HIO). It emphasizes that the mortality rate of the Paphos General Hospital is low and compares favourably with other hospitals in Cyprus and abroad.
