The engineers and technicians of the Water Development Department and the invited experts continue their efforts at the Mavrokolympos dam in order to find the appropriate methods to solve the problem, after its evacuation, but in essence it is still unknown when and how the final restoration of the damage will occur, with the water problem turning into a nightmare for Paphos as we head towards the summer.
The authorities reassure that everything is going according to the necessary planning due to the complexity and seriousness of the problem, nevertheless the local authorities are now clearly concerned about the immediate future. The volumes of mud should be cleaned mainly at the safety door of the dam and all necessary actions should be taken not only to repair the damage but also to ensure that a similar failure does not occur in the future. answer the staff of the TAY, who are trying to find a solution, which will allow the maintenance of the dam in the future and the intervention in case of a problem. The engineers and technicians of the TAY are carrying out some evaluations in order to decide and conclude in the next few days on the method they will choose.
They additionally note that something like this has never happened before, adding that the damage that occurred at the Mavrokolympos dam is due to the failure and destruction of the ventilation pipeline and stressed that the damage is not related to the lack of maintenance that some claim. In addition to the works that will be done, it will be ensured that the TAY officials will be able to supervise the dam in order to prevent similar problems in the future, they stress.
The passage of time, however, creates additional concerns for citizens and institutions, who see the summer season approaching and the replenishment of the volumes of water that were lost is not coming.
