The Police have begun giving lectures in schools ahead of Easter. Paphos Fire Department pyrotechnician George Georgiou has already begun visiting schools in our province in an effort to raise awareness of the dangers of using firecrackers.
As he characteristically emphasizes to the students and teachers who attend the lectures, the first mistake can be the last and prove fatal both for a serious injury and for the very life of a young person who uses firecrackers.
This year, the police are once again emphasizing the important role that parents have to play in the overall effort to avoid unpleasant situations caused by firecrackers. The last thing anyone would want is to be maimed, seriously injured, or, worse, lose their life due to a momentary act of foolishness.
