IN PORTS AND AIRPORTS THE EXTRAJUDICIAL CAMERAS - THE 'PHOTORADARLIST' IS IMPLEMENTED

Filenews 14 March 2025 - by Mikalis Hadjivasilis

As of next month, the list of those who have not paid their bills from the cameras of the Traffic Police, at airports, ports and barricades, will be implemented.

The photoradarlist, as it will be called, is almost ready and the final approvals remain so that within April, according to information from "F", it will be implemented. The company that manages the photo-labelling system already owns the list and after all the necessary actions have been taken, it will be given to the entrances and exits of the Republic as well as to the barricades to carry out the relevant checks.

According to the decisions taken, anyone who travels abroad or returns to Cyprus or goes in and out of the occupied areas will also be checked if they are pending against them out of court. If it is found that he is on the relevant list, then he will be taken to an adjacent place where he will be served with the extrajudicial document and will depart. It is estimated that in this way many who currently avoid receiving their extrajudicial document, will rush to do so so as not to have trouble at the airports.

At the moment, there are more than 250,000 out-of-court cases, a fact that concerns both the Traffic Police and all those involved who are looking for solutions so that the system can fulfil its purpose, which is the prevention of road collisions.

Meanwhile, more than 45,000 drivers rushed in and paid their bill after the police announced last January that if the relevant fee was not paid by March 31, then the offenders would be taken to court. Many are those who searched the website of the system administrator and found that an out-of-court case was pending against them, which they then paid to avoid inconvenience and unnecessary costs.

The deadline given by the Police for the payment of the extrajudicial fee expires on March 31 and then criminal charges will begin to be filed against those who did not pay their extrajudicial fee. The prosecutions, we are told, will begin in the old cases and then in the most recent ones.

According to relevant information, there are currently pending out of court fines dating from 2021 when the photo-tagging system began to be implemented and have yet to be paid. The Police's call to drivers to find their extras and pay for them had been registered in Parliament, with the Legal Service explaining that anyone who wants to see if there are pending against them out of court and if they want to pay for them were given an opportunity. On the issue of registration of cases in the Courts, it was explained that this is the right of the Attorney General where and where he deems it appropriate to do so.
