Free oral checkups will be conducted by private dentists on March 20, the Cyprus Dental Association announced on Monday.
On the occasion of World Oral Health Day the free oral checkups seek to increase oral health awareness. “The main goal of the event is to make us all aware of the impact that oral health has on our general physical health and well-being, and to adopt better hygiene habits,” the association said.
Every year, millions of days of work and school attendance are lost due to poor oral health, which has economic and social consequences. While more than 50 million school hours are lost each year due to dental problems.
“Diseases occur in the mouth, from the simplest, such as those of the teeth and gums, to the most serious, such as oral cancer.”
Meanwhile some of the first symptoms of general diseases of the body appear in the mouth, such as Diabetes Mellitus, certain cardiovascular diseases and some communicable diseases etc.
“The treatment of these diseases could be easier and more effective if these first symptoms are diagnosed early during visits to the dentist.”
