The Police, following a recent complaint received, draws the attention of citizens and in particular, children and adolescents when using social networking sites and dating platforms, as there are serious risks of deception, intimidation and exploitation.
Instructions for Safe Use:
• Do not share personal information (name, phone, address, school, etc.) with strangers.
• Be especially careful with people who ask for personal photos, videos, or other sensitive information such as financial matters.
• Avoid communication and meetings with people you have met during your online contacts.
• In case of arranging a meeting with an unknown person, it should take place in a public place with good lighting.
• Informing a person of your trust about the place and time of the meeting.
• Parents: Talk to your children about their online activity and set limits on the use of social networking sites.
• In case of suspicious or threatening behaviour, immediately inform the Police.
