More than 16 kilos of cannabis were found on Wednesday morning in the luggage of a 26-year-old woman who arrived at Larnaca airport from a foreign country, according to the Police.

In a post on platform X, the Police states that "the control was carried out after an evaluation of information by the Ministry of Defense in cooperation with the Customs".

The 26-year-old will appear today before the Larnaca District Court for the issuance of a detention order.

22-year-old arrested in Paphos for accepting stolen goods

Paphos Police arrested a 22-year-old person, pursuant to a court warrant, for a case of receiving stolen property.

According to Paphos Assistant Police Director of Operations, Michalis Nikolaou, the young man was found in possession of a vehicle that had been reported stolen in the past from Limassol. The vehicle was parked in an area of ​​the Chloraka community and, as the suspect stated during his interrogation, he had purchased it from another person.

The case of theft and receiving stolen goods is being investigated by the Paphos Police in collaboration with the Limassol Police.

The Paphos Police carried out a targeted traffic campaign in the city and district of Paphos, on both the primary and secondary road network, yesterday.

According to statements by the Assistant Police Director of Operations of the Paphos Police Department, Michalis Nikolaou, the campaign began at 9:00 in the morning and ended at 10:30 in the evening.  

The action is part of the Police's efforts to prevent serious and fatal road collisions, enhance road awareness and increase citizens' sense of safety.

During the campaign, 350 motor vehicle inspections were carried out, resulting in 130 complaints. The majority of these, 97 complaints, concerned exceeding the speed limit.

The checks also resulted in three vehicle impoundments, while an incident involving a minor driver was recorded, who was spotted driving at a speed of 80 km/h in an area with a 50 km/h limit. His vehicle had a modified engine, while, according to the Police, he was driving illegally with the consent of his guardians.  

The Paphos Police reminds that targeted checks will continue, aiming at prevention and the safety of all road users.

They entered a shopping mall store in Limassol undisturbed and managed to leave with 22 items of clothing. The reason for a 33-year-old suspect and an unknown man, who seems to be her accomplice in the whole scheme. They had visited a store in a shopping center on March 25 and after entering the changing room, they left with several stolen items.

The suspect was identified by the store employee. She was arrested and brought today before the Limassol Court, which ordered her detention for a period of three days. From the examinations, it appears that the 33-year-old is involved in a second case of theft from a store that occurred the previous day.

According to the complaint of the store employee, she noticed an unknown man entering the changing room and being followed by the suspect, who was holding various clothes to try them on. After some time had passed, he noticed the girl coming out of the changing room alone without holding anything and, after going and taking other clothes, she re-entered the changing room, where she did the same again.

The employee, after a few minutes had passed, noticed the suspect coming out of the changing room and the unknown man holding a bag of the store, in which there were various clothes. Subsequently, the two left the store, while the complainant reported that on that day no bag of the store had been sold, nor did both persons pass through the cashier. From an inspection carried out on the closed circuit surveillance of the store, the theft was found.

It should be noted that on the same day, security guards of the shopping center stopped the suspect outside a store for a check, after she was identified by a photo as the person who committed theft from another store of the shopping center on March 24. As it was established, the suspect was holding a bag, in which there were 22 pieces of various items, which were stolen from the store where the complainant works.

The 33-year-old was taken to the Police, while during her interrogation she verbally denied any connection with the unknown man, who was recorded leaving the store's changing room with the bag, which was then found in her possession. The Police examinations continue to identify the unknown person, while 11 testimonies are expected to be received from employees of two stores where the thefts were committed on March 24 and 25.

A new search operation in a store, this time in the district of Famagusta, where products of controlled pharmaceuticals and drugs were detected and confiscated, was carried out today by members of the Police, in cooperation with officials of the Ministry of Health.

The coordinated investigation operation was carried out, on the basis of data on the marketing of medicinal products, without authorisation. Members of the Branch for the Fight against Intellectual Property Theft and Illegal Betting Branch, members of the Anti-Drug Service – YKAN, members of the Paralimni Police Station, as well as officials of the Pharmaceutical and Health Services participated in the investigations.

The store found 14 packages of dry plant matter, which is being investigated if it is cannabis, 14 handmade cigarettes containing dry plant matter, which is being investigated if it is cannabis, 10 packages of products, believed to contain the substance tetrahydrocannabinol – THC, and 29 packages of products, believed to contain cannabidiol – CBD.

The products found were confiscated for further examination, with the Police Department (Famagusta District Division) and the Paralimni Police Station investigating a case of drug trafficking, and illegal trafficking of controlled pharmaceutical products.

In new investigations carried out today in seven two-wing cells in the Central Prison, a total of seven mobile phones were found.

Six of them were found in a life sentence cell and the seventh in a prison cell. Three of them were broken and in unusable condition.

The prison guards, according to information from Filenews, in order to locate the mobile phones, which were in a crypt, were forced to damage part of a cell wall, in which an Indian barrister is being held.

The investigations started from 8:00 in the morning and lasted until 4:30 in the afternoon.

Their location was possible after information was given to the Prison Directorate.

The Police made two arrests yesterday in connection with the clash that took place shortly after the completion of the carnival parade in Limassol.

Specifically, the Police handcuffed a 21-year-old and a 22-year-old, who were detained.

It is recalled that a group of people were caught holding hands with each other, near the Agios Nikolaos roundabout.

At the same time, a 30-year-old Greek Cypriot man stepped in to separate the group of persons, resulting in him also being attacked.

The 30-year-old Greek Cypriot was slightly injured in the clash, who was taken to the hospital for preventive reasons.

The 57-year-old man who on Sunday, January 19, attempted murder of his 46-year-old wife in Peyia, is referred to a direct trial before the Assize Court.

The case file had already been sent to the Legal Service, given that the examinations of the cases have been completed by the Police. The 57-year-old confessed to the attempted murder while a testimony has already been received from the 46-year-old wife of the perpetrator. Until today's start of the trial at the Assize Court, the 57-year-old defendant remained in custody, as decided by the court.

The attempted murder unfolded on the evening of Sunday, January 19, outside the couple's residence. According to the investigations of the Police, the cause of the attempted murder with a 46-year-old victim and her 57-year-old husband as the perpetrator, is the couple's disagreements and confrontations over various family issues. The attempted murder took place at 6:00pm of that day and the 46-year-old herself notified the Peyia Police Station by phone that her husband shot her with a shotgun outside their house.

Members of the local police station went to the scene and found the woman bloodied with gunshot wounds. An ambulance was notified and transported her to the Accident and Emergency Department of Paphos Hospital and then to the Nicosia General Hospital where she remained for days in the Intensive Care Unit, eventually escaping the danger to her life.

The perpetrator remained at the scene after the attempt and was arrested by members of the Peyia Police Station.
