Six fires broke out yesterday in various areas of the Paphos district, burning a large area in total covered with trees and dry wild vegetation. Fires had broken out on Saturday on 3 other occasions.
The largest fire for the season had broken out in an area of the village of Lemona which, although extinguished on Saturday night, yesterday was rekindled to be extinguished again. Fires also broke out yesterday in areas of the villages of Kelokedara, Innia, Mamonia, Stavrokonou and in an area of Polis Chrysochous.
In a post, the spokesman of the fire brigade, Andreas Kettis, wonders what numbers and what disasters will we reach until the heart of summer? Human activity is behind every fire and prevention plays an important role, he notes, calling on all relevant services and local authorities as well as citizens to be vigilant in their activities, to supervise, observe and inform state authorities about irresponsible and suspicious moves.

Members of the Police Headquarters intercepted last night on the Nicosia-Larnaka motorway a vehicle travelling at a speed of 184 kilometers per hour, instead of the permitted limit of 100 kilometers.
The tests found that the driver of the vehicle, aged 21, was driving without a driver's license and without a safety certificate, resulting in his arrest. Then we wonder why young people are lost on the asphalt.

A minor is being treated in intensive care at a private hospital after being attacked with a knife by his mother's cohabitant. The 17-year-old underwent surgery as he has injuries to his lung and heart, with his condition described as stable. His mother was also attacked with a knife, fortunately without serious injury.
The incident took place at dawn on Sunday (16/3), after a fight broke out at a house in Limassol, where the three people live. The 45-year-old suspect allegedly threatened the minor son of his cohabitant, with whom he lives. During the heated argument that followed, the suspect retrieved a knife and injured first the 17-year-old and then his cohabitant.
The Police were immediately informed, members of which rushed to the scene and found the minor bleeding. Subsequently, an ambulance was called and picked up the injured man, while the suspect was also located at the scene, who reported to police that he injured the 17-year-old. According to the same information on our website, an opening knife with traces of blood was found in the yard of the house, which was taken as evidence.
In addition to the minor, his mother was also taken to hospital, where it was found that she had a 20cm abrasion on her chest and a wound half a centimeter deep on the right under the abdomen, caused by a knife, according to the attending doctors. On the other hand, the minor had a 5cm long wound to the left axillary line and immediately underwent surgery.
The 45-year-old was taken to the offices of the ICF of Limassol, where in his voluntary testimony he admitted that he stabbed the minor and that he hit his mother when she tried to separate them.
On Sunday morning, the suspect was brought before the Limassol District Court for a detention order. The Court approved the police's request and ordered his pre-trial detention for five days. Although he was initially arrested for the offences of wounding, threatening, assault causing actual bodily harm, physical violence and stabbing, however, after the detention procedure, he was re-arrested for the offence of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, as it was found that the minor had suffered more serious injuries and is being treated in the intensive care unit after surgery.
Investigations into the case are ongoing and statements are expected to be taken from both the minor and his mother as well as the suspect.
