BARRAGE OF FIRES - APPEAL BY THE FIRE BRIGADE TO THE STATE AND CITIZENS TO TAKE MEASURES

 Filenews 16 March 2025

A number of fires broke out yesterday, with the Fire Brigade appealing to the relevant bodies and citizens to take measures before it is too late.

According to a post by the spokesman of the Fire Service, Andreas Kettis, yesterday the Fire Brigade was called to deal with 63 incidents, of which 47 fires as well as another 16 special services.

"Six potentially dangerous fires in rural areas in the Paphos District and another 41 fires in the countryside and urban fabric in the remaining districts. Fires in dry grass, in wild vegetation and trees, in uncontrolled garbage dumps, in garbage dumps," he says.

The Fire Department wonders? In what numbers and what disasters will we reach the heart of summer? Human activity is behind every fire and prevention has an important role.

We call on everyone to be vigilant, District Administrations, Municipal/Community/State Authorities, to proceed in a timely manner with deforestation, cleanups and elimination of uncontrolled garbage dumps.

We urge our fellow citizens to be careful in their activities, to supervise, observe and inform the State Authorities (Police, Fire Service) about irresponsible and suspicious moves.

The bad environmental conditions are here and the margins have narrowed.

The point is to talk about prevention and not about what we did or did not do for repression, because it will be too late.

We can all contribute to protect our country.
