 Pafos Press 24 February 2025

The cold air mass Coral will continue to affect Cyprus until Thursday, when the temperature is expected to return to average climatic values, i.e. 15 to 17 degrees Celsius, an official of the Meteorology Department told CNA on Sunday.

According to him, a warning for low temperatures may also be issued on Monday for Monday night until Tuesday morning, with the most likely scenario being that this warning will be downgraded to yellow.

Regarding warnings for extremely low temperatures, he noted that an orange warning has already been issued for Sunday night until Monday morning, as the minimum temperature in the highest mountains is expected to drop to -10 degrees Celsius. He added that it is most likely that it will also be issued for Monday night to Tuesday, which, however, may be yellow. He added that there may be no warning on Tuesday night.

Referring to the prevailing weather conditions, he said that on Sunday afternoon the weather will be partly cloudy, with possible isolated light rains and possible light snowfall, mainly in the mountainous and semi-mountainous areas. The temperature will rise to 8 degrees inland, around 10 on the coast and -2 in the higher mountainous areas, while frost will prevail in the mountainous areas and locally in the semi-mountainous areas.

In the evening the weather will be partly cloudy. The temperature will drop to 0 degrees inland, around 2 on the coast and -10 degrees in the higher mountains. Frost will form in the mountains, semi-mountains and inland.

He also mentioned the depth of the snow, at the time of issuing the bulletin, which was 3 centimeters in Troodos Square and 5 centimeters in Chionistra.

He said that based on the forecast, on Monday the weather will initially be partly cloudy and will gradually become mostly clear. The temperature will increase slightly but will remain lower and below the seasonal averages and will be around 8 degrees inland, 10 on the coast and minus 1 in the higher mountains.

As with today, Sunday, frost is expected to form in the mountainous areas and locally in the semi-mountainous areas on Monday, he continued.

He said that on Tuesday the weather will be mainly cloudy at times and in the afternoon there is a possibility of isolated light rain and light snowfall in the mountainous and semi-mountainous areas.

For Wednesday, he said that there will be temporary increased cloudiness that will bring isolated rain and a little snow in the mountains, mainly in the afternoon.

Regarding the weather on Thursday, he said that there will be temporary increased cloudiness. He added that by Thursday the temperature will rise significantly to hover close to average climatic values, i.e. 15 to 17 degrees, as Coral leaves.
