The Municipality of Ierokipia negotiates with a private person the chartering of a small train that runs the route from the coastal tourist area of the Municipality to the central square of Geroskipou, so that the thousands of tourists in the area know the monuments and other points of interest of Geroskipou instead of just its beach, as is the case today.
This was revealed by the Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Ierokipia, Andreas Sikkis, pointing out that the train has already been imported by the private owner in Cyprus. We are currently working with him on the terms of a possible permanent cooperation, he said, in order for tourists from hotels on the beach of Geroskipou to be able to go to the center of the Municipality, where there are important monuments such as the church of Agia Paraskevi, the Folklore Museum, the Byzantine Museum of the Metropolis of Pafos, Kato Vrisi and many more.
The new Municipality of Ierokipia and especially its capital, Geroskipou, needs a restart of all material, since in recent years it has been devoid of works and imagination, points out Mr. Sikkis, referring to a very important tourist flow to the Municipality which, however, is limited to hotels and beaches, completely ignoring the attractions offered by the wider area.
We know the impact and economic activity offered to tourism enrichment, for example, by popular neighbourhoods in existing cities, he stresses. Here we must say that the issue of the popular neighbourhood has been discussed in the Municipality of Geroskipou for 20 years without exaggeration. We can make this popular neighbourhood part of our lives, to rebuild the cobbled streets with small courtyards and flowers in the pots, to illuminate another part of our city center that only transmits today is abandonment and misery without quality of life.
All this can be done, says Mr. Sikkis, with financial incentives to the owners, so that they can use their premises, offering them the opportunity to expand into new places of action, for example by creating small traditional cafes, cafes, hangouts where tourists and we may have a choice to enjoy our coffee or food.
If our effort for the train is successful, he concluded, I believe that Geroskipou will gain very important momentum and a new breath.
