Weak low pressure affects the area. On Thursday, cold air mass is expected to affect the region combined with a strengthened northerly air current, bringing a sharp drop in temperature of up to 12 degrees.
Weather in detail
On Tuesday, the weather will initially be partly cloudy but will become mostly cloudy at times, with isolated showers or thunderstorms expected. Snow or sleet is expected to fall on the highest peaks of Troodos. The winds will initially blow northeast to southeast and later southeast to southwest weak to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will generally be up to a little turbulent. The temperature will rise around 19 degrees in the interior and coasts and around 8 degrees in the higher mountains.
Tonight the weather will be partly cloudy and isolated rain is not excluded in coastal areas. Locally sparse fog and low cloudiness are likely to form. The winds will initially blow southwest to northwest weak and locally to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort, while later they will become mainly northwest to northeast weak, 3 Beaufort. The sea will be calm until a little turbulent. The temperature will drop to around 6 degrees in the interior, around 10 degrees on the coast and around 2 degrees in the higher mountains, where locally frost is likely to form.
On Wednesday the weather will be partly cloudy and isolated showers are expected at times but in the afternoon thunderstorms in the eastern half of the island.
On Thursday and Friday the weather will be partly cloudy and cold at times, with isolated showers and snowfall expected in mountainous areas. Gradually, snowfall is expected in semi-mountainous areas until Friday.
The temperature will not change significantly on Wednesday to remain close to average climatic values. By Friday, the temperature will drop noticeably to be well below the average climatic values, with the maximum temperature reaching about 4-5 degrees during the day both in the interior and on the coast.
The height of snow, at the time of issue of the bulletin, was 2 cm in Troodos Square and 11 cm in Chionistra.
