The 46-year-old from Moldova, who was identified as a terrorist in a phone call made in Moldova, was released after questioning.
The information was transmitted to the Cypriot authorities, after he was on board a FLYONE flight that departed from Chisinau with final destination Larnaka Airport, putting Larnaka Airport on red alert.
The suspect, who has never been employed by the police in the past, is currently living with his family in Nicosia, since his wife works in our country. Under questioning, he categorically denied having anything to do with terrorism.
Police searched their home without finding anything suspicious, according to Filenews information from police sources. It is recalled that as soon as the aircraft, with 104 people on board, landed, it was transferred to a special area. Armed members of the Special Anti-Terrorist Squad then entered it, as shown in a video obtained by Filenews, and removed the 46-year-old.
It is noted that the alarm lasted about three hours, due to the protocols that had to be applied, while a crisis center was set up at the airport.
Larnaka Airport remained closed for ten minutes and a flight from Qatar to Paphos was diverted.
